The Smartwool (SWL) Designer incorporates the brand vision, seasonal design themes and product line direction to design commercially compelling sock and knit accessories that achieve both brand and quantitative goals.
Responsible for seasonally allocated cross-categorical textile design in socks, and knit accessories.
Responsible for creation of new and compelling original art: conceives, develops and defines all design elements of assigned project to address design briefs with the Design Director.
Designs will be executed with many different methods of design and visualization, including, but not limited to: participating in brainstorm sessions, creating sketches, storyboards, POVs, and illustrations, graphed art for knit execution and photoshop renderings.
Expectation to execute art by 2D and 3D software.
Communicate with manufacturers on print and knit execution, and review and approve proto strike offs and knit protos for print and pattern.
Ability to clearly talk through your ideas and fully participate in design critiques.
This role is also responsible for the creation of sock design tech packs managed through PLM system and close communication with the sock development team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Design: ·Utilize the SWL Brand Manual, Signature SWL work and seasonal briefs to design all knit and printed socks and knit accessories that bring the SWL brand to life for consumers and that meet the business targets (sales/margin).
2. Participate in the seasonal kickoff design process in the creation of trend, textile, color stories at the direction of the Design Director
• Facilitate design connectivity between categories with color/pattern work
• Work with design/PLM team to color, merchandise and finalize the line utilizing seasonal color stories, flow plans, pattern connectivity across categories ensuring business drivers and brand objectives
3. Update and keep the visual line plan tool
4. Creation and timely hand off Sock Design Tech Packs to the sock developers that addresses product needs and target prices as specified in the line plan/briefs
5. Timely review of protos and accurate communication to development
6. Project management and timely hand off work book illustrations
QUALIFICATIONS:(Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
• Bachelor Degree in graphic design, textile, or related design field
• 5+ years of textile/knit and print design experience
• 5+ years of experience with soft goods in all areas of the development process including merchandising, design, sourcing, and product development
• Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office applications
• Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize
• Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate clearly with merchandise and development team members to insure that designs optimally achieve briefed goals
• Working knowledge of PLM systems
• Effective written, visual, and oral communications
• Experience with jacquard pattern and hand knits
• Strong level of executing graphed knit patterns in CAD program
• Minimal travel required
• Must present an online portfolio that embodies a variety of illustration and textile design styles and exemplifies a high degree of creativity and talent.
