Director, Global Product Development - La Mer
PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE: The Director of Global Product Development will be responsible for conceptualization, initiation, development, evaluation and follow-through of all new product launches that support the strategic objectives for La Mer. Develop and support strong innovation of a 3 year calendar strategic plan to grow business segments, improve innovation sufficiency and fuel brand growth. Consistently deliver successful products and ensure the timely execution of programs. Manage, train, and develop the product development expertise of direct and indirect reports.
ACCOUNTABILITES:
• Lead the Product to Market process, working with cross functional teams to launch new and innovative products which meet strategic and business objectives and specific geographic requirements
• Create disruptive/breakthrough product innovations that can create net extra opportunities
• Create product concepts under the guidance of the Executive Director that are within the brand vision
• Prioritize and manage multiple projects with high level of detail and ensure timely completion of development activities
• Drive decision making and actively participate in bi-weekly PPD meetings with cross functional teams to ensure timing and innovation sufficiency
• Interface with various departments through all aspects of the development life cycle to deliver on time launches
• Ability to take action with quick and accurate response and make decisions to keep a program running that would be best for the brand
• Manages and is responsible for the performance of direct reports including accuracy of projects and their development.
• Responsible for product profiles. Generate creative claim opportunities and identify competitive advantages to further enhance product positioning.
• Initiate and direct R&D and outside vendors on new formula programs – provide briefs, prototypes and performance direction
• Responsible to initiate sensory and clinical testing. Follow-up on start/finish testing dates of each program
• Regional involvement on programs with key stakeholders to target strategic initiatives and build regional relevancy.
• Prepares and presents product innovations to Regions and affiliates, i.e. Sales Meetings, Regional Roundtables, etc.
• Integrate consumer insights into the development of strategic product innovations for the brand.
• Partner with marketing to explore new market opportunities (i.e. new products, product categories, and high-potential channels, emerging markets).
• Direct and assist in copy creation for packaging, leaflets and training/education materials.
• Travel for first production of key programs and provide on-site approvals for production batches, pilot batches and test fills
Qualifications
• 8+ years related experience
• Bachelors’ Degree or Equivalent
• Position requires experience in product development
• Superior product evaluation skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Working knowledge of key computer programs is required. (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
• Occasional travel.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of management.
• Strong organization and planning skills.
