Job Description: Corporate
Title: Senior Designer - Sweaters
Reports to: Design Director
Overview: Manage seasonal product design and execution to achieve overall creative and business objectives.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate and unify creative execution of product. (Huh?—think you could delete this)
• Manage creative design and technical development of product within merchandise planned assortment strategy.
• Research seasonal trends, themes, color, raw materials and styling.
• Collaborate with Merchandising, Production and Technical Design to achieve product execution and maintain design integrity.
• Conduct fittings.
• Create design cards for first protos, including measurements and construction details.
• Develop and counter source yarn/fabric and trim with production and suppliers.
• Order, track, and manage all European yarns (this is going away in 3 months)
• Approval of lab dips and fabric/yarn submits.
• Overseas travel for trade exhibitions, design research, and to supervise product development.
• Manage, direct and develop associate and assistant sweater designers (I added this)
Qualifications
• 6-8 years sweater Design experience
• High taste level and creative ability
• Ability to manage, coach and develop others
• Working knowledge of sweater garment construction, and fitting
• Knowledge of sweater and yarn construction, plus stitch and pattern and technique
• Ability to conduct color/print research
• Knowledge of seasonal silhouette and color trends
• Strong illustration/presentation skills
• Understanding of J. Crew Brand, ability to implement into design
• Proven ability to research and apply market/fashion trend information
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Detail oriented, good follow through
• Strong organizational, communication and written skills
• Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Excel
• BA Fashion Design
