SUMMARY:
The Regional Head of Merchandise Planning leads all key planning activities for each of the Company’s brands across all regions and channels within the region in which they reside. He/she is closely aligned with Brand and Product management, channel leaders, Finance and Marketing. He/she ensures that each Brand develops and executes optimal merchandise assortments and efficient inventory investments to achieve the company’s regional financial goals in each channel of business. He/she acts as a champion of the “Global First” approach to style adoption while supporting the regional needs of the region in which they reside.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Seasonal Strategy:
• Demonstrates senior leadership in support of adherence to seasonal calendars for all regional activities
• Manages the team to ensure best in class analytics behind a comprehensive Regional Hindsight packet highlighting key inventory management wins and opportunities for the region in which they reside
• Supervises and is an active leader in the Regional Hindsight Meeting
• Supports the translation of global sales plans into regional category plans in coordination with Product Managers
• Supports creation of category level sales and margin targets at the regional level set by the Brand Heads of Product
• Ensures adherence to targets for globalization, SMUs, style and material counts, and MOQ
Pre-Season:
• Is a key stakeholder during Regional Line Adoption meetings and supports the “Global First” mindset around style adoption
• Manages the team in providing merchandise planning analytics during the creation of the regional line plan for the region in which they reside
• Manages the Store Planning team through pre-season analytics and strategies in partnership with the Head of Retail to support any retail specific needs for the region during line plan development
Buy Execution:
• Leads and supports the regional merchandise planning team through the buying process
• Overseas regional sales and forecast updates across all channels
• Leads the analytics, forcol execution and buy adjustments during regional buy roll-ups and final regional buy reviews
• Approves the final regional buy for their region in partnership with Brand Managers and Brand Head of Product
• For Retail specifically, leads the Store Planning organization in building store cluster strategies, localization plans and assortments and the sales forecast refresh for the retail portion of the buy in their region
In-Season:
• Ensures in-season performance analytics are delivered and acted upon
• Sets the regional strategy for in-season monthly re-forecasting
• Rotates through monthly Open-to-Buy meetings to lead and coach teams on how to identify and address wholesale and retail store inventory management opportunities (new flow, replenishment, markdowns, clearance) to achieve financial results within their region
• Champions the regional merchandise planning organization in providing analytics to support sound business decisions that achieve optimal financial results
Other:
• Partners with Senior Management and the Global Head of Merchandise Planning on key initiatives to achieve financial targets
• Leads the hiring, training and development of the new regional planning organization in their region
• Develops strong partnerships with the core cross functional team (Brand leaders, Global Product leaders, Wholesale and Retail leaders, Finance and Marketing) to ensure buy-in to the global assortment and support for targeted regional needs
• Rotates through important regional seasonal meetings and provides monthly updates to senior management on sales, margin and inventory performance by brand, channel and region
• Actively resolves issues and provides insights to senior management on calendar adherence, globalization and SMU targets, style, material and MOQ targets and continuous improvement opportunities
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION:
• 10+years’ experience in demand planning, inventory management, and seasonal buying in a wholesale environment
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Highly developed analytical and numeric reasoning skills
• Ability to balance financial realties with creative risk taking
• Ability to consult, communicate and influence across range of people
• Ability to conceptualize, develop and implement new processes and improve existing processes
• Analyze and present data, and develop financially based merchandising, and insights and direction from hindsight analysis
• Strong understanding of the sales process and skill for leveraging market trend/insights to drive buying.
