Director Retail Finance - Bricks & Mortar
Purpose
Proactively partners with the US VP of Retail and owns key interfaces within the regional and global finance teams. In addition to traditional budgeting and forecasting responsibilities, cornerstone activities for this role include supporting cross-functional activities around end-to-end planning, cost efficiencies and ensuring top notch, highly accurate and consistent information and analysis for all business partners. Manages the day to day activities and P&L of adidas US B&M retail division. Provides guidance to the Canadian Retail Finance team and for the incorporation and consolidation of Canadian Retail strategies into the overall NAM B&M financial strategy.
Key Accountabilities
• Develops and monitors financial plans, targets, strategies and controls that focus on achieving desired financial and business objectives of the adidas US B&M business.
• Oversees the plans, budgets, forecasts and controls for full adidas US Retail P&Ls.
• Continuously innovates Retail KPIs and reporting environment to educate retail, finance and other non-financial managers to track performance of adidas US Retail.
• Analyzes proposed business risks and opportunities to determine impact on financial results, including post mortems on outcomes.
• Leads teams of finance professionals in the areas of sales & margin, operating expense control, labor modelling, and lease management.
• Strategizes cross-functionally to optimize divisional profitability, growth prospects and support of regional finance and branding goals.
• Serves as primary interface to VP Retail and ensures all retail reporting, compliance and other standards are achieved.
• Leads interaction with financial shared services on all issues related to adidas US retail activities.
• Supervises sales/margin, operating expense, and lease management teams to ensure continuous talent development and increased retail acumen for the adidas US organization.
• Acts as key member of commercial finance team, bringing best practice, input and collaboration to ensure achievement of cross-functional targets and initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Expert knowledge in Finance and Accounting and high-level understanding and proven track record with retail math and retail financial drivers.
• Ability to think strategically, synthesize the complex data and develop innovative solutions within an entrepreneurial environment.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to information requests from senior executives, stakeholders, cross functional business leaders, peers, clients, and customers.
• High level skills in Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint (or other reporting software).
• A proven track record of executional excellence in an environment that requires a detail-oriented approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities to accomplish assignments simultaneously under tight timelines.
• Ability to coach, manage, align, motivate and develop direct reports.
• Desire and ability to work closely and collaboratively with other members of senior Finance and Retail leadership teams.
• Ability to execute scenario planning and post-mortems for diverse retail finance challenges and opportunities.
Qualifications
1. Advanced degree or qualification in Finance, Economics or Accounting (e.g. MBA or CPA)
2. 8-10 years of broad based operational finance experience with progressive responsibility in industry leading companies, with mandatory retail finance experience
3. Minimum of three years successfully leading, managing and developing a team
4. Solid accounting skills and experience
5. Advanced excel skills required
6. Familiarity with SAP, COPA, TM1 and other relevant adidas and industry Finance systems/analytical software a major plus
