Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Product Strategy, the Director is responsible for working closely with the divisional VP of Merchandising to develop Long range product growth plans, tied to annual & seasonal plans, and guiding the initiatives that make those strategies come to life.
The Product Strategy Director helps to lead the pre-season strategic planning process for the division to ensure the guidance provided to the team is aligned with the direction of the division, current business performance and market trends.
Job Responsibilities:
• Develops an expert level of consumer, marketplace and trend understanding for the division + categories.
• Leverage divisional + product insights (e.g. market share analysis, data recaps, consumer insights, weather data) to make divisional recommendations + build LRP’s, in-season strategies and assortment strategies by season.
• Ensure the LRP and Seasonal Product Strategies are informed by a number of indicators to balance opportunity/risk, including: historical performance, market share info, service level opportunity, field feedback, trend lifecycles, and marketing plans
• Guide & continuously evolve the divisional LRP based on evolutions and changes in the business; Develop high level scenarios that support the LRP.
• Identify category growth and new business opportunities based on market share and consumer insights and build informed recommendations to drive profitable sales growth for the division, including presentation strategies, how/what to expand online, pricing strategies, etc.
• Partner with Market Insights team to distort learnings by market, channel, and pricepoint
• Partner with divisional cross-functional team (Merchandising, IM, Design, Production, Visual, Marketing, Online, etc.) to develop project plans against key initiatives to ensure that we are tying strategic intent to tangible actions steps to make product strategies come to life
• Influences top down category planning, assortment & newness targets, and global line planning in order to ensure that that business actions tie back to high level strategic objectives
• Vet out commercial planning scenarios for future seasons to understand what messages will resonate with customer at what time periods to drive profitable sales.
• Lead or participate in special divisional projects related to company initiatives – e.g. assortment architecture, collaboration/integration across markets & channels, assortment localization, etc.
• Builds process and tools to link product strategies to top down financial goals & measure results.
Skills Required:

• Systems and Tools Acumen: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and have aptitude to learn technical applications quickly
• Risk Management: Anticipate risks and identifies contingency plans and processes to prevent disruptions when risks occur
• Able to build constructive and effective relationships with a broad and diverse group of business partners
• Possess strong organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrates strong listening, written and oral communication skills
Qualifications:
• Strong interest in/passion for apparel retail
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• 7-10 years work experience, preferable in Retail +/or product function
• MBA a plus
