The Technical Design Intern is responsible to assist to specify the construction of the product and assist to determine the proper fit specifications for each style for ladies. In order for the Technical Design Intern to carry out these main responsibilities she must work closely with members of technical design to understand the goals and resolve issues. The Technical Design Intern is also involved in assisting in aspects of product development and production to ensure construction guidelines are clearly communicated to the manufacturer.
The Technical Design Intern is responsible to support the technical design team in four major aspects of technical design. These responsibilities provide a sound foundation for future professional career growth in technical design.
The four major aspects of technical design that the Technical Design Intern should pay close attention to are detailed as follows:
Gain an introductory understanding of the Lilly Pulitzer® Customer and Positioning in the Marketplace.
Assist to determine proper fit and specify the construction in Ladies for each style that leads to achieving sell through goals of 60% at full price (seasonally) and minimize returns while achieving net sales. Assist to establish and maintain size consistency between styles. This is especially important as e-commerce business becomes a more important channel. Support the technical design team in establishing and implementing processes and procedures to improve consistency and efficiency within the department.
SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM SUCCESSFULLY:
• Knowledge of pattern making, garment construction and pattern grading is preferred.
• Ability to provide effective technical flat sketches is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Web PDM is useful. Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Gerber PDS System – Accumark modules Pattern Maker and Marker Maker is also useful.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word essential.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Enrollment in a four year college program in Technical Design or a related field is required.
MISCELLANEOUS:
• This position is a non-salary position.
• Given the seasonal nature of the industry, this position is subject to intense, flexible, non-standard hours during peak periods.
