The Manager, Materials Library is an integral part of the product development process and is responsible for partnering with Design, Materials, Color and QA teams to aid in selecting fabric and trim options that fit the specifications of the product and needs of the business. The Manager leads projects with the Materials and/or QA team that enhances internal processes. Owns the Materials trend research, publication and creation of fabric and trim trend boards. Presents trend direction to Design and Merchandising. Responsible for managing the seasonal Vendor Fair scheduling, budget and resources. This person must have extensive knowledge of raw materials, the design process, trend and technical fabric and trim knowledge to provide direction for Design and Materials. Responsible for fostering cross-brand fabric consolidation opportunities to facilitate overall cost savings. The role requires a blend of raw material, library science, trend and design knowledge in order to enable the development of world class products.
• Manage Coalition materials library - manage receipt, categorization and archiving of all fabric and trim sample
• Manage scheduling, budget and execution of seasonal Vendor Fair of 25-30 vendors from Asia and Latin America
• Manage temp resources for the library and internal resources for seasonal Vendor Fair
• Lead initiatives cross-functionally or within the Materials department
• Research trend direction, publish trend report and lead the creation of trend boards by the Materials team
• Maintain and track historical data on trim and fabric, recycle or dispose of obsolete or failed trim or fabric samples
• Meet with cross-functional business partners in order to facilitate fabric or trim searches
• Research innovations in raw materials and develop communication strategies to showcase fabric/trim innovations to the Design and Materials teams
• Foster cross-brand fabric consolidation opportunities to facilitate overall cost savings
• Active participation in the product development process - responsible for independently searching materials library, selecting fabric / trim options that fit the criteria and providing options to Design and Materials teams
• Provide orientation/tours for new employees and visitors
Years of Related Professional Experience:
5+
Educational/Position Requirements:
• Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or minimum of 3+ years direct relevant work experience in Library Sciences, Research or a related field.
• Background in materials and trend is preferred.
• Experience working with library cataloging systems is preferred.
Computer/Software Applications:
• Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), WebPDM, Enovia/Matrix One and Outlook
Skills:
• Customer service experience and interest in working with people
• Ability to implement new systems, policies, and procedures for library management and information research
• Must have excellent organizational, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Ability to work with a large number of people across many functional areas, be flexible and independent
• Ability to understand complex organization systems
• Extreme attention to detail
• Must be self-motivated
• Ability to create and execute internal marketing/PR of Research/Library services and events
• Understanding of a product process from design through manufacturing is preferred
