Reporting Relationship:The Assistant, Design, M's Sweaters is a key role within Owned Brands reporting to the Manager, Design, M's Sweaters & Hosiery.

Major Responsibilities:
The Assistant, Design will offer support to the Manager, Design in the successful execution of a brand design strategy. In this role, the core responsibilities are to offer assistance in delivering timely execution of key design milestones from concept through final buy meeting. The Assistant, Design also supports the collaboration with execution partners including sourcing, technical design, merchandising, planning, and buying. This role will support multiple brands, including Black Brown 1826, Saks Off Fifth, and Gilt.
Role Responsibilities Include:
• Strong knowledge of knitwear garment construction & stitches (both cut & sew and sweater knits)
• Research for new ideas and inspirational concepts that are relevant to multiple menswear brands
• Prepare presentation sketch boards with illustrations, CAD artwork, color chips, and fabrications.
• Create initial tech packs including sketches, specs, and trims.
• Regularly correspond with Merchandising/Tech Design/Sourcing/Buying teams.
• Review and comment on Lab Dips, Fabric, Art, and Trim submits
Professional Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel Design
• 1-3 years of related experience
• Confidence to present research trends and designs to managers
• Proficient in current Design technology including Adobe Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop) and other surface design programs like NedGraphics
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office required, especially in Excel
• Working knowledge of knit & sweater garment construction
• Ability to help develop knit fabric and sweater yarns
• Experience with garment measurement and specs
• Strong color sense
• Commitment to learning the development process as relates to overseas factories
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
• Excellent organizational skills, with strong time management and the ability to prioritize and multitask
• Professional demeanor and appearance
• Enthusiastic team player with excellent problem solving skills, good follow through and a sense of urgency
• Ideal candidate would be able to work in a professional fast paced environment and be able to deal with shifting priorities.
