Overview
General Summary: We are seeking innovative candidates who experienced in research, design, and development with our state of the art knitting machinery. Candidate should be highly organized; detail oriented, and possesses a professional attitude. We will train the right person if the basic required skills are present.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities: This position requires knowledge of knit construction and a desire to learn and build on those skills in order to apply them to technical knitting applications. There is a degree of designing involved, including blending aesthetics with the functional aspects of product development.
Note that this position will require operating machines, tying up yarns and experimenting with fabrications. This is not a Photoshop or fashion illustration position. It is a hands-on machine R&D position.
This position works closely with product development to understand the creative vision of each project and translate design concepts into 3D product using technical knit engineering. This position also translates design concepts to generate 2D patterns on the Stoll M1+ program to build appropriate proportions, fit requirements, and production construction feasibility. Hands on Stoll M1+ programming is a must. The right person collaborates with the engineering team, production team, and other technical knit designers to interpret and clarify each design concept. This position combines design, product merchandising and manufacturing to effectively launch advanced technical fabrications and products.
The ideal candidate will help develop and translate concepts, while providing recommendations to production team to resolve fabric issues to create consistency of manufacturing and the ability to troubleshoot production issues when needed. This position represents the product development team in decision-making related to aesthetics of design and will create and communicate knit program revisions, incorporating design and fit changes.
Qualifications
Required skills:
• Basic programming on Stoll M1+ software
• Comfortable handling knitting machinery
• Knowledge of knit construction
• Yarn construction knowledge
• Basic knowledge of fiber science
• Technical sketching – loop drawings
• Ability to apply production specifications and work with manufacturing needs
• Communicate between cross-functional teams
• Ability to research, analyze and interpret design elements into knit constructions
• Ability to research new yarn sources and suppliers to further innovation
• Proper knit terminology with clear communication
• Desire to learn and collaborate as part of a design team and adapt
• Support the design team concepts with open discussion
• US Citizen or right to work in the USA
Preferred skills:
• Shima Seiki knitting machinery (required if no Stoll knitting machinery)
• Receptive to constructive criticism (meaning not to champion your own designs over the teams’ concepts)
• Experience with Stoll knitting machine mechanics
