The Director of Brand Communications will provide leadership and strategic copy direction for the Frontgate brand including concepts, headlines etc. This role will oversee all editorial and selling copy for our print, digital and retail channels. The Director of Brand Communications will lead and coordinate the copy staff in delivering effective, high-performing, compelling copy that will differentiate the brand and engage customers.
• Responsible for communicating the brand vision and seasonal directionality of the business by working collaboratively with partners in Design, Photography, Production, Digital, Retail, Marketing and Merchandising
• Primary responsibility for overseeing the writing/editing of copy in published materials for all channels of the business.
• Manage and guide the execution of creative briefs across all media channels from concept through execution to ensure creative concepts are on strategy by aligning and developing creative ideas against merchant and management objectives.
• This leader must inspire creativity, innovative thinking, strong marketing concepts and solutions through thoughtful management, providing clear direction and developing a staff of copywriters and proofreaders.
• Manage our Copy Team of 7 writers and proofreaders, setting strategic direction and goals.
• Nurturing and inspiring the team reporting to them
• Support our social media strategy by providing guidance, ideas and the actual words that go into our content
• Develop — and kindly enforce! — copy best practices, brand standards and consistency. Ensure these evolve as our own strategy evolves
• Partner with the Marketing Team on overall SEO strategy. Provide the words and content as needed
• Direct the editorial content and concepts as needed
• Be a passionate champion of our brand image and voice and consumer
• Ensures marketing and communications strategies are integrated and aligned with corporate goals and internal cross-functional strategies.
• Works seamlessly with senior management across departments and project teams to provide communication counsel.
Qualifications:
• 8+ years experience in a leadership role managing and mentoring direct reports, and 8 years minimum experience within marketing and/or advertising.
• Brand experience mandatory; agency experience on retail account considered
• Experience with one or more marketing disciplines in a high-volume environment required (catalog, advertising, retail, digital direct mail, packaging, sales promotions, etc.)
• Must have up-to-date portfolio showcasing accomplished written and conceptual skills
• Bachelor’s degree in English or Journalism required, with demonstrated strength in writing.
• A strong writer with expertise in branding strategy, for print, digital and retail channels
• Must be conceptual, strategic, and collaborative.
• A proven creative professional, with a solid track record of establishing a cohesive brand voice
across all channels
• An effective, proactive and inspirational leader, with experience building teams
• Consumer focused mindset
• Strong interpersonal and influential skills, the ability to exhibit diplomacy and decisiveness, must display excellent listening, written and oral communication skills with internal and external communication, documentation and presentation.
• Proven track record of prioritizing numerous and sometimes overlapping projects and the ability to find creative solutions to complex issues while still meeting deadlines.
• Detail-oriented with excellent planning and organizational skills and maintaining up-to-date creative/editorial trends as it relates to the brand objectives.
• A natural selling strategist, able to understand and communicate the importance of strategically based creative as it relates to the brand and the overall business marketing objectives and have the capability to inspire creative talent; influence key senior executives, while fostering and maintaining good relationships with internal and external customers and/or partners.
