The North Face: Director, Strategy & Business Operations
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director, Strategy & Business Operations helps The North Face deliver against our strategic objectives through facilitating strategy execution, coordinating our cross-functional go-to-market process and delivering strategic projects. In this role, you will define, lead and track strategic initiatives, processes, projects and activities needed to reach our seasonal, yearly and long term global goals and objectives. In addition, you will help The North Face make the right choices through market and business insights.
As our Director, Strategy & Business Operations, you will be responsible for achieving ongoing alignment and safeguarding the continuous focus on strategy execution and go-to-market with the core global business functions in the North Face, such as product, design, merchandising, marketing, digital, retail, supply chain, finance and IT, as well as the regional market teams.
The role is highly collaborative, self-starting, execution-focused and forward-looking with a focus on long-term brand building as well as the achievement of seasonal commercial objectives through our go-to-market activities, strategic projects and specific, action-oriented initiatives. You will need to feel comfortable in complex, highly-matrixed organizations and a global fast-paced environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Go-to-Market Process Management: implement, manage and optimize our core cross-functional global Go-To-Market process
◦ Ensure implementation of our global Go-To-Market process with global and regional teams and drive process adherence, business impact and success throughout the GTM circle
◦ Facilitate seasonal objective setting and the development of seasonal plans and calendars
◦ Track delivery against the seasonal objectives and plans throughout the seasonal circle
◦ Keep the overview of the various seasons and stage gates for the different season and what needs to be delivered at any point in time
◦ Run the weekly cross-functional GTM alignment meetings
◦ Ensure regional and functional inputs are delivered and embedded in the process, that regions and functions are informed and participate actively in the GTM process as required
◦ Track and review results, identify learnings, highlight potential improvements and initiate actions against these
• Strategy Execution: facilitate the definition of initiatives and actions needed to deliver against strategic goals and objectives, agree on action plans, timelines and responsibilities with functional and geography leaders and provide progress reporting against strategic goals, objectives and initiatives across regions and departments, identify gaps and problem areas, propose actions to close the gaps and work with departments to deliver against strategy
• Project Management: manage key strategic projects across functions and regions and ensure projects get delivered on time and on budget, as well as are integrated into the business-as-usual organization upon completion.
• Strategy Definition: use internal and external insights, data, best practice and learnings to help define strategic priorities and make the right choices to fuel growth and differentiation and innovation in the market.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred.
• 7-10 years of experience in Strategy, Business Operations, Management Consulting, Business Planning, Business Development, Project Management, Marketing
• The ideal candidate will have experience in both consulting as well as business strategy and execution experience in a large global consumer-focused organization
• Having had a global work experience and line management experience in sporting goods or consumer goods is a strong plus
• Excellent communications, collaboration, influencing and presentation skills, both written and verbal
• A strong ability to distill insights from a great variety of data points, keep the overview, identify priorities and craft and deliver strategic narratives.
• Must be able to connect work to the "big picture" brand and business goals and have a commercial affinity
• Proven cross-functional business project/program and process management experience
• Demonstrated track record of academic and/or professional achievement.
• Understanding of global lifestyle and sporting goods markets' dynamics.
• Ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with high-level internal customers and work cross functionally at all levels of the organization
• Must be able to perform under pressure, manage and prioritize multiple tasks on very tight deadlines and in high visibility settings.
• Entrepreneurial orientation, client-service mentality and sensitivity in working across cultures are required.
• Advanced Powerpoint and Excel skills are required.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time by air and overnight.
