Job Description
Design Director - Women's Croft & Barrow
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Responsible for leading & guiding the design of timely seasonal assortments that are relevant to the brand(s) position and target customer. Lead development process for large brand or multiple brands within division.
PRIMARY Responsibilities product development
• Manages a design team who owns, builds, creates and updates tech packs, trim sheets and design packages; ensures information is accurately entered into PLM
• Guides team through entire product design process, including creating color palettes, art direction, fabric & trim selection, concept board creation, sketching, and fit as pertains to styling.
• Oversees brand clarity and consistency across categories within brand(s); drives the conceptual development of the brand(s)
• Communicates and ensures that product direction is consistent with global market research as well as brand position and business strategy
• Fosters creativity to inspire ideas and new concepts outside current assortment
• Advocates and influences trend ideas in assortments
• Identifies and recommends changes to drive processes efficiencies
• Presents designs in all meetings; influences cross-functional partners on product direction

• Manages direct reports, systems and projects to achieve unit goals in accordance with Company policies and practices.
• Prepares and analyze unit plans and reports.
• Provides leadership by exhibiting influence and expertise, thus affecting the results of the operating area.
• Creates an effective work environment by developing a common vision, setting clear objectives, expecting teamwork, recognizing outstanding performance and maintaining open communications.
• Develops staff through coaching, providing performance feedback, providing effective performance assessments and establishing performance and development plans.
QUALIFICATIONS
required
• 2+ years of progressive management experience
• Proficient in Illustrator or related system - ability to learn how to design through new/advanced technology
preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field
• 10+ years design experience
• Previous retail experience

Design director - exclusive and private brand accessories
• Owns research and identify big picture seasonal trends for all Private and Exclusive brands Center Core categories and Footwear
• Own developing and presenting overview of trend direction for total Kohl’s Center Core and Footwear portfolio
• Drives creation and delivery of design vision for all Private and Exclusive brand Center Core
• Represent each Private and Exclusive brands aesthetic of assortments for hand bags, jewelry and fashion accessories, to influence design direction and overall image inherent for each brand with vendors, product management and merchants
• Creates and presents big story ideas, relative to each brand to Merchant partners
• Leads relationships with both internal (pm, merchants) and external development (vendors) teams to develop and deliver Private and Exclusive brand designs that improve overall customer experience. Communicate effectively and frequently to drive the design vision throughout entire product lifestyle
• Leads relationships with Private and Exclusive brand apparel design teams to understand their seasonal and monthly direction and interpret within the Center Core collections to create cohesiveness
• Drives value and quality across all disciplines equally within design development
