Job Summary
This role reports directly to the Senior Manager, Accounting and will have primary responsibility for EWC’s general ledger accounting activities. This position will manage the timely closing of the monthly, quarterly and year closing processes and is expected to identify and implement control and process improvements as well as ensure that all practices comply with EWC’s accounting policies. This position is expected to serve as the subject matter expert for accurate and complete income statement account closing and proper balance sheet reconciliations.
A Day in the Life
• Manage the preparation, consolidation, review and analysis of monthly financial management reports for the Company including consolidated income statements, balance sheets, statements of cash flows and other supplemental schedules.
• Prepare schedules for management, auditors and others, and provide business insight, as needed.
• Serve as department subject matter expert for intercompany transactions including their proper recording processes within the ERP.
• Manage fixed asset accounting, including reviewing and determining appropriateness of capitalized assets in accordance with EWC accounting policies. Prepare fixed asset journal entries and roll-forwards, review and update of fixed asset supporting schedules including transfers and disposals on a monthly basis. Review useful lives of assets for reasonability and recoverability.
• Manage lease accounting, including related deferred rent computations. Collaborate with Director of Accounting to design and implement processes and controls in connection with the new lease accounting standard.
• Monitor and reconcile prepaid accounts and ensure timely recognition of expense.
• Primary ownership to reconcile balance sheet accounts, as assigned, as scheduled in accordance with the monthly close schedule.
• Prepare, record, review monthly journal entries. Verify reconciliations of all general ledger accounts on trial balance contain appropriate supporting documentation in accordance with EWC’s accounting policies.
• Ensure accurate coding of transactions in accordance with the company’s chart of accounts / budget including preparation and detailed review of all journal activity. Recommend / record reclassification entries and adjustments as necessary.
• Maintain an environment of strong internal controls and proactively identify opportunities to enhance controls or implement efficiencies in compliance with control objectives.
• Ensure documentation of control environment and related environments remains current.
• Prepare and maintain accounting procedure documentation.
• Leverage accounting and reporting systems to generate reports, respond to inquiries, conduct research, and identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Responsible for opening and closing bank accounts, as necessary
• Responsible for general ledger maintenance, such as opening/closing general ledger accounts, departments, projects, etc.
• Responsible for opening and closing periods within Financial Force accounting system.
• Ad-hoc research / analysis of accounting transaction records as required.
• Serve as a resource to less experienced staff within the department.

• Advanced MS Excel background
• Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software. Previous system implementation experience preferred
• Exceptional general ledger and related reconciliation experience

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, CPA preferred, but not required
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive, relevant experience
