Smashbox-Global Retail Design Manager
Main Objective:
The Global Retail Design Manager will support the responsibilities of the Director, Global Retail Design in the design, development, execution and project management of all retail projects to the highest possible standards across all distribution channels (open sell, perfumeries, department stores, shop-in-shops, freestanding stores). As part of the Retail Design team, this position will work with directly with internal departments -including VM, Creative, Marketing, Regional and Corporate teams - as well as external partners such as display manufacturers, shopfitters and architects. This position will also offer general support to the Global Retail and Visual Merchandising team as needed.
Responsibilities:
Design, Development and Execution:
• Support the Director of Global Retail Design by consistently delivering new and remodel retail projects that are aligned with the brand strategy, on schedule, and within budget, while maintaining the highest level of quality and customer service expectations.
• Review and redline construction documents as well as technical drawings for millwork, merchandising elements and open sell systems.
• Collaborate with VM team and provide drawings in the development of merchandising feasibility studies and technical planograms of open sell systems.
• Partner with VM team to develop, prototype and execute new fixtures and merchandising elements.
• Monitor production of fixtures and merchandising elements to ensure their execution meets brand quality requirements and to assure the engineered integrity of products manufactured. (NA only)
• Manage and supervise existing vendors/consultants list. Evaluate and onboard new vendors.
Project Management:
• Develop and maintain an ongoing list of all active retail projects
• Create and maintain library of global fixture systems.
• Assist in the development and distribution of master construction documents, standard specifications and global retail design guidelines to further raise the quality standards across regions
• Streamline the implementation of retail design processes within regional context to ensure all markets are working with the same information
• Review and monitor all retail projects submitted by regional teams. Partner with regional / affiliate teams to keep projects moving forward, on budget and on time.
• Ensure clear communication, transfer of information and alignment of regional teams to maintain and build collaborative and efficient process.
Qualifications:
• Core experience requires proven space planning abilities, successful implementation of Brand and design principles within a variety of unique site conditions, ability to interpret merchandising standards and strategies, flexibility in response to a constantly evolving business and passion for the customer experience.
• 5+ years of experience in a retail consulting firm or corporate retail design organization.
• Ability to detail fixtures and display elements in realistic and executable fashion.
• Knowledge of materials and methods of fabrication and installation of fixtures and construction
• Proficiency in Autocad or Vectorworks, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite
• Understands the importance of Construction Schedules, and Resource Management
• Proven ability to self-manage as well as champion cross-functional relationships within the brand.
• Manage high volume workload of varying scopes and prioritize project requirements effectively
• Highly organized and detail oriented.
• Experience in international retail design/process a plus.
