Job Duties, Responsibilities and Requirements
Summary:
The Merchandise Manager (MM) is responsible for developing, executing and communicating the strategic merchandising vision of the Fashion/Lifestyle Brands for Retail and e-Commerce Channels. The MM will work with the Director of Merchandising and engage with Planning and Allocations, Retail Marketing, Retail Visual Presentation, Retail Field Leadership and e-Commerce Merchandising and Marketing to deliver the overall assortment plans and corporate plans for net sales and merchandise gross margin. This position is a key part of our merchant team, driving daily execution for buying, analyzing, merchandising and forecasting for the assigned area of responsibility.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Buying and Merchandising: Pre-Season
Develop the Sales, Receipt and GM targets by working with the Director of Merchandising for the upcoming season, taking into account sales history and trend at the class level for the e-com business as well as the stores.
Coordinate with Finance and Planning teams on long range planning (top down planning) with Merchandise Financial Plans (bottoms up planning)
Create monthly flows for sales, inventory to deliver sales, gross margin and inventory turn plan at the class level and Style/Color level using Oracle Retail tools.
Create brand plans at the Division/Merchant/Buyer level
Assist in creating the seasonal Marketing Calendar
Work in conjunction with Retail Marketing, Retail Visual Presentation and Site Merchandising and Marketing, ensuring key item buys and looks are being communicated
Create and analyze quarterly hindsight data; make recommendations to assortment based on results.
Buying and Merchandising: In Season
Oversee and execute the open to ship on a weekly basis, re-forecast all retail elements; predetermined by the corporate timeline and needs.
Provide insight from bottoms-up planning and create at once execution plans based on sales analysis.
Review receipts by month based on plan and last rolling operating forecast.
Create and Present weekly and monthly sales and inventory based reporting. Including but not limited to reports at the pre-determined hierarchy level for daily/monthly demand/net sales, feature story, category landing page, and key items.
Meet weekly with cross functional team to review business results; provide team with financial information for the week at the sub dept level; review the results based on current financial projections, plan, and LY information
Make recommendations for future buys and/or cancellations of on-order, as well as replenishments in season
Make recommendations for the current calendar, email, category landing page and feature stories
Make recommendations for the clearance of slow sellers to maintain turn targets.
Create and analyze quarterly hindsight data; make recommendations to assortment based on results.
Ensures that reports are timely and accurate.
Create and support career development opportunities for team at all levels, especially for direct report.
Proactively address challenges with team members through Mid-Year and Annual Performance Reviews

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE JOB:
Understands financial metrics to analyze businesses & can make recommendations on how to drive the business based on sales, history & market trends
Drives merchandise selection process, placement of orders and ensures proper quantity is purchased by style/color/size for division
Partners with the Brands, Ecommerce Marketing, Demand Planning & Merchandise Planning to analyze the weekly business. Make recommendations on future buys to grow business
Leads the team to drive results. Provides timely direction and communication to all team members (planning, digital marketing, creative studio, content). Builds relationships through effective collaboration & is seen as a solution oriented team member
Exhibits leadership capability. Possesses the ability to manage up, down and across with positive results
Ability to develop & drive divisional strategies for areas of responsibility. Analyzes LY information as well as current market to support strategy development. Identifies how current trend will impact future results and adjusts as needed
Develop relationships and follow through with third party vendors and Planning, Allocation, Marketing and Photography studio on the day-to-day details of the business
Shop competing stores and websites to monitor fashion trends, pricing strategies and presentation techniques. Report industry information to team
Participate in ad-hoc analysis as necessary
Participates in assigned area OTB monthly, seasonal, yearly basis
Drives merchandise selection process and can get upper management buy-in on proposed strategies for division
Establish collaborative relationships with Brand leaders, planning/distribution and marketing to understand the complete product life cycle and ensure delivery and availability of product

Education & Experience
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
6+ years in retail. Omni-Channel and Corporate Merchandising experience preferred
Must be proficient in Excel and retail math
Strong planning, inventory management, and analytical skills
Must be able to handle multiple projects with adherence to deadlines
Must be highly organized
Must be able to work independently as well as on group projects
Must be self-motivated and confident with decision making
Must have the ability to manage up, down and across with positive results
