Job DescriptionThe Assistant Fashion Designer is responsible to assist the Senior Fashion Designer with the development of the fashion designs of the company. The designs must be consistent with the market positioning of Lilly Pulitzer, “Lilly Pulitzer® designs and distributes products and services created to lift one’s spirits and inspired by the authentic Palm Beach lifestyle
This position is responsible primarily to assist with organization, communication, design boards, fashion illustrations, silhouette and artwork development. The six primary responsibilities of the Assistant Fashion Designer are as follows:
• assist with design boards and fashion illustrations;
• assist with silhouette and artwork development;
• assist with trim development;
• assist with lab dip approval;
• perform other duties as required by design
• maintain all activities consistent with the product development calendar, as guided by the Senior Fashion Designer – Children’s Apparel.
The six primary responsibilities are discussed below.
Assist with Design Boards and Fashion Illustrations.
• Assist with the development and updating of design boards. Update design boards to reflect all current editing of the line, from the time sales samples are ordered, until the final line is presented on sale.
• Illustrate flats for presentation either freehand or on Computer Aided Design.
• Assist in the development of line sheets and sales manuals for the sales force.
• Set up and maintain seasonal development books.
Assist with Silhouette and Artwork Development.
• Assist with the development of silhouettes, as directed by the Senior Fashion Designer.
• Assist with the development of artwork, stitch development, embroidery, appliqué and embellishments on a seasonal basis.
• Assist the Senior Fashion Designer in respect to the interface with Technical Design. This is for prototype samples, sales samples and final production specifications. Provide clear technical diagrams and descriptions to technical design so technical design understands the fashion design intent for the style.
Assist with Trim Development.
• Research and develop trim.
• Organize and maintain the trim library.
Assist with Lab Dip Approval.
• File lab dip approvals.
• Communicate lab dip comments.
• Maintain color library.
Perform Other Duties as may be required by Design.
• Maintain art supplies.
• Assist in fit comment follow-up with respective factories with complete details for executing quality garments.
• Organize information and files for efficient management of the department
• Communicate daily with yarn suppliers, factories, agents and team members to inspire an open communication flow with attention to details.
• Organize and maintain a yarn library.
• Organize and maintain a periodicals library and inform design of vital fashion and business trends. Submit weekly update of newsworthy fashion information
• Perform other duties as may be required.
**Maintain all activities consistent with the product development calendar, as guided by the Senior Fashion Designer, Children’s Apparel.
SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM SUCCESSFULLY:
• The taste level and fashion sense to understand the Lilly Pulitzer customer and to design fashion merchandise which appeals to the Lilly customer.
• Genuine excitement for the Lilly Pulitzer concept. The Assistant Fashion Designer must share the vision for the merchandise, consistent with the positioning in the marketplace.
• A fashion point of view and attitude which are appropriate for Lilly Pulitzer.
• Proficient skills in silhouette and artwork development.
• Proficiency in Computer Aided Design, especially for print development, with Info Design Fashion Studio and with Adobe Photoshop, is required. The Assistant Fashion Designer must develop fluency in current Info Design Fashion Studio and Photoshop software and all of their capabilities. The Assistant Fashion Designer must have the aptitude and willingness to learn new applications of Computer Aided Design which may be implemented.
• Basic personal computer skills, such as Word and Excel in a Microsoft Windows environment, are helpful.
• The sense of urgency necessary in the apparel industry.
• Sufficient organization skills and detail orientation to maintain useful print, color, trim and design libraries.
• Support of the Core Values of the Lilly Pulitzer company- upbeat with a team approach.
• The Assistant Fashion Designer must demonstrate the ability to take on more responsibilities in a variety of functional fashion design areas within two years.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• A four year college degree is required. This must be in print design, textile design, fashion design or a closely related subject.
• While no previous fashion design experience is necessary, up to 2 years of prior experience in a fashion design position is preferred.
MISCELLANEOUS:
• This position is classified as full-time salaried; it is exempt and is not eligible for overtime. This position is eligible for standard company fringe benefits.
• The position requires some domestic travel to New York, as appropriate.
• Given the seasonality of the business, this position may require flexible, additional working hours during peak periods.
• This position is based in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.
• This position is reviewed annually.
