The North Face: Sr. Graphic Designer, Logowear
POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Sr. Graphic Designer is to work with the Logowear Product Team from project conception, creation, and execution of men’s and women’s apparel graphics. This position is responsible for developing innovative, brand-right graphics for The North Face apparel and accessory products. The Sr. Graphic Designer will lead in their specific assignments against the territory model, as well as provide inspiration, knowledge, and guidance to junior team members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Works directly with Art Director to deliver seasonal graphics from concept through execution for core line plans, quick-turn projects, territory graphic capsules, and special make-up units.
• Collaborates with Territory Creative Director and Design Directors to create seasonal graphic concepts for men’s and women’s product.
• Lead designer. Creates original art that appropriately reflects The North Face brand DNA while also pushing the needle forward on graphic aesthetic. Leads on multiple projects simultaneously with overlapping calendar and business needs.
• Continuously leverages resources in producing new ideas. Has solid awareness of outdoor, lifestyle, and streetwear trends and ability to interpret these trends through the TNF lens.
• Designs with planning and forethought around graphic artwork execution: screen-printing techniques, applique, embroidery and other embellishment methods.
• Creates accurate production files detailing artwork specifications, scale, and application materials to vendors for creation of salesmen sample and bulk execution. Reviews and comments on strike-offs.
• Leads research initiatives of various competitive brands through store visits and retail studies to gain understanding of competitive landscape. Travels to industry tradeshows and various inspiration destinations. Presents research to cross functional teams using traditional and new forms of communication.
• Partners with Art Director to ensure on-product graphics have a consistent creative direction and brand identity with other products and that all collateral complies with The North Face brand standards.
• Shares knowledge and expertise with other members of the design team. Provides inspiration, knowledge, and guidance to junior graphic designers.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
• 7+ years of related professional experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Computer/Software Applications: Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign in a Mac Environment.
• Knowledge of apparel graphic design process: concept development through production.
• Must have good presentation skills with the ability to articulate the strategy behind design concepts and how those concepts meet the strategic objectives.
• Possess an expert understanding of design principles and use of typography.
• Hand drawing and illustration capabilities.
• Strong understanding of color theory and best design practices for color usage on product.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Must have a track record in executing tasks/projects within fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
• Must be detail oriented with design, production files, and communication.
• Overall understanding of the outdoor market and the competition landscape. Participatory knowledge of sports represented by The North Face is helpful.
• Exercises personal professionalism and sense of accountability.
• Possess a strong apparel graphic design portfolio.
• Travel required: 5%
