Specific Responsibilities
The Merchandising Director is responsible for achieving sales, gross margin and profit goals through the selection, pricing and promotion of merchandise and by utilizing appropriate merchandising and management techniques to maximize the Company’s return on inventory investment and space in stores.
• Partner with Sales and Product Development to achieve price points by setting target retails to meet financial goals and effectively communicate to Design.
• Work with Operations to manage flow and timing of deliveries.
• Develop and execute merchandise plans and pricing strategies.
• Review the sales plan and make appropriate merchandising decisions.
• Develop assortment plans that support the customer’s goals and key item focus.
• Track and communicate best and worst sellers.
• Contribute ideas in group brainstorming and customer meetings – ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Work with Sales, PD and staff to develop program extensions and added –value opportunities.
• Keep current on trends and news in fashion, accessories and retail. Contribute regularly to corporate trends by helping to direct design and merchandising for market
• Manage, develop and educate direct reports. Provide guidance, mentoring/coaching and feedback on direct reports performance.
• Travel internationally and domestically as needed.
• Work with designers to produce salable and trend right product.
• Other duties as required.
Skills and Requirements
• Minumum of 5-7 years of experience as a Merchant.
• Category experience in hoisery is a must.
• Excellent analytical, planning and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with and interpret numbers and have a thorough knowledge of inventory/open to buy.
• Superior negotiation and presentation skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Creative thinker who can assess customers needs and create custom and unique programs that meet their objectives.
• Ability to multi-task and to thrive under tight deadlines and high-pressure situations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with SAP a plus.
