MISSION
The Jr. CAD Designer is responsible for creatively developing print and pattern for all divisions of Tommy Bahama, to enhance sales and maintain the integrity of the brand.
KEY RESULTS AREAS
• Assist Art Department to create original, unique textile designs including all over prints, placement prints, embroideries and embellishments, and woven yarn dye patterns (plaids, stripes and jacquards). Scan and clean bought artwork and create repeats to factory specifications.
• Working across all Tommy Bahama brands, partnering with design to understand, create and deliver artwork in line with the brand identity while following each brand’s individual needs and strict adherence to deadlines.
• Research and interpret print and textile trends appropriately for each brand, providing research and original artwork for a seasonal print presentation held by the Art Department, to assist Design.
• Work proactively with all members of Design, supporting and developing business relationships to ensure successful results at all levels of the product.
• Turn around requests in a timely manner.
• Set up and maintain binders of purchased prints, print names, and numbers.
• Set up an ongoing art archive system and seasonally archive all artwork.
• Assist Color Coordinator with:
◦ Create and maintain color standards for apparel design departments.
◦ Categorize and organize physical color samples.
◦ Serve as the liaison to Hong Kong manufacturing for color standard requests.
◦ Create and maintain seasonal color palettes to distribute to Design Department for line sheet sales tools.
◦ Create and maintain CAD development files for Design Department.
◦ Mix seasonal colors for line sheets.
◦ Calibrate printers.
◦ Maintain color printer process.
◦ Maintain color library by: ordering color standards, checking invoices and adding new color standards to designers color index cards.
EXPERIENCE, TALENT AND EDUCATION
• Degree in Textile Arts, Fashion Design, or Graphic Design
• 3+ years’ experience using Photoshop, Illustrator, Ned Graphics and InDesign
• Knowledge of all aspects of the commercial fabric printing and production process including strong knowledge of repeats, factory limitations, color separations and fabric limitations
• Working knowledge of Flex PLM
• Good understanding of all aspects of copyright related to textile design, rework/manipulate bought art to pass legal requirements while adhering to designer’s wishes
• Excellent color and print sensibility, with an eye for fashion and detail
• Demonstrated ability to deliver commercially viable color and print stories in a fast-paced environment
• Highly motivated, passionate and results oriented
