Primary responsibilities:
• Work closely with the EIC and Digital Head to establish, refine, and execute on the current content strategy, with the ability to adapt and change course quickly (and manage a team through a transition) as priorities shift
• Oversee the day-to-day content operations of RunnersWorld.com, managing the editorial team against timelines and budgets
• Develop and implement content guidelines to optimize audience and revenue growth, while always keeping the readers’ evolving interests top of mind
• Drive the daily publishing efforts on the brand site, social media platforms, and newsletters, managing all relevant editorial calendars
• Obsessively monitor and respond to user data with the goal of creating more engaging, high-quality content that attracts new audiences and converts current readers into loyal visitors
• Serve as the primary digital editorial liaison for the brand, representing the sites’ interests and needs while partnering with cross-functional teams including development, product, analytics, affiliate commerce, e-commerce, RW events, audience development, consumer marketing, and ad sales
• Project manage the development of any editorially driven products, including paid premium experiences, apps, and tools
• Partner with the brand and corporate sales teams, conceiving and executing high-value editorial packages that engage readers and attract a diverse base of advertisers
The ideal candidate will possess:
• 10+ years of editorial experience, with a strong background in service journalism and daily publishing—preferably for a healthy lifestyle-related brand
• Experience leading a team in a fast-changing web publishing environment, with the ability to retain a sense of humor about those constantly shifting priorities
• Uncanny instincts for what makes content irresistible, along with a demonstrated ability to consistently deliver against that editorial vision
• A data-driven content philosophy, relying on traffic and engagement metrics to inform daily content decisions
• Superb problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to testing different strategies across the sites, social, and newsletters
• The ability to simultaneously be a big-picture thinker and be obsessed with detail
• Familiarity with web and social publishing platforms, such as Drupal and Sprinklr, as well as web analytics tools, including Google Analytics and Chartbeat
• A solid understanding of best search practices, and experience optimizing content in line with those practices
• Experience covering health, fitness, and nutrition and a pedigree that’s credible and respected in the running and publishing communities
• Proven track record of success engaging consumers across multiple platforms and mission-driven orientation toward excellence
• Strong leadership qualities—able to articulate vision, rally a team, collaborate cross-departmentally, mentor, motivate, and inspire great work
