An experienced Digital Commerce Front-End Web Developer/Designer is needed for client-side development for the Ballard Designs websites. The Digital Commerce Front-End Web Developer/Designer will use their expertise in visual design, information architecture, interaction design, and code execution to deliver engaging, creative experiences that enhance our customer's online shopping and differentiate our brands from the competition. We appreciate a candidate that finds creative solutions using front-end technologies, resourcefulness, and out-of-box thinking. Candidates must have strong attention to detail, and be able to juggle multiple projects, while working in a fast-paced digital environment. Requirements include expert-level experience and understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript to produce polished web functionalities.
Responsibilities:
• Translate email and website layouts into fully functional code and templates using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript
• Perform regular assessment and maintenance for the HowtoDecorate.com WordPress site as needed
• Focus on creating enterprise-level solutions that perform consistently and degrade gracefully across various browsers, platforms, and devices by writing a mix of efficient, standards-compliant, semantic markup
• Work on making web interfaces more tablet & mobile-friendly by utilizing touch-enabled functionality, as well as CSS media queries to make content render adaptively and responsively across various devices
• Develop maintainable, modular features and functionality using jQuery and/or other JavaScript libraries
• Apply knowledge of modern usability concepts and information architecture, in a team setting, to create intuitive user experiences
• Be well versed in Photoshop & Illustrator with a broad understanding of current web and browser-related issues.
• Have strong typographic, color and layout skills and an understanding of how these basic design principles are applied to the web.
Other Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Analytics and Merchandising to implement track and record site statistics, using technologies such as Coremetrics and Google Analytics
• Integrate 3rd party API’s into existing website
• Maintain site appearance by developing and enforcing content and display standards based on Brand Guidelines
• Able to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines in a production-oriented environment, professionally and proactively completing assignments
• Must be comfortable following direction and implementing changes based on constructive criticism and be able to balance great design with meeting short deadlines
Skills & Qualifications:
• Position requires both artistic skills and technical knowledge
• Proficient understanding of software versioning tools, such as SVN
• Experience with CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript are required; PHP and MySQL and Sass (stylesheet language)
experience a plus
• Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
• Mobile platform development experience, including media queries and responsive techniques
• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of WordPress themes, plugins, and capabilities
• Able to work within a multidisciplinary team of designers, developers, and marketers
• Must be able to focus on the details, while keeping the business objectives in mind
• Stay informed on bleeding-edge technology, and closely follow industry trends
• Be a self-starter with the willingness to constantly improve and innovate
