SUMMARY:
As a key member of VF Corporation’s global Human Resources team and global Corporate Communications team, the Director of Workplace Communications is responsible for planning, managing and executing Human Resources communications strategies, programs and tactics designed to inform, educate and engage VF’s 60,000 employees, with a focus on organizational change; compensation and benefits; performance success; learning and development; talent management; and global mobility. The Director, Workplace Communications will partner closely with and provide strategic counsel to HR leaders throughout VF and its brands, including the Chief Human Resources Officer, and develop programs that advance workplace initiatives and align employees to business strategy.
In this position, the Director, Workplace Communications will apply her/his strong expertise in the field of HR to enhance VF’s existing internal communications strategies and programs. The individual will understand the relevant technology, tools and tactics, and how to translate implications or conclusions into actions. He/she will also keep current with emerging technologies, tools and best practices in creating a meaningful way to engage, educate and provide resources to employees through communication to support them across their individual journeys in the organization.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Partner with VF’s CHRO and the HR Leadership Team to understand culture, programs and needs, and develop a communications strategy and roadmap in support of VF’s talent strategy. Execute the communication strategy and plans;
• Collaborate with VF’s Director, Internal Communications, and other members of VF’s Global Corporate Communications team to ensure alignment with VF’s broader communications;
• Develop core messages, audiences and methods of delivery; drive innovation in communication approaches to support efforts around creating and individualizing the employee experience;
• Develop and execute communications plans to drive desired behaviors of employees across the company;
• Develop and execute communications plans that guide and manage organizational change;
• Ensure that communications plans supporting various distinct HR initiatives are integrated and mutually supporting; understand the differences across brands and regions and modify approach as necessary;
• Use an optimal mix of communications channels to disseminate key messages across the company to meet business, HR and communication objectives;
• Translate complex topics and information into easily understandable language that resonates with employees at all levels and across geographies;
• Develop annual plans and measure progress ongoing;
• Liaise with vendors as needed to ensure needs are met.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong experience in HR/internal communications with deep knowledge of how an HR function supports a global organization;
• At least 8-10 years of experience in internal communications for a global organization, a communications agency or HR/workplace consulting firm; experience in a matrixed environment is helpful;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong editorial (writing, editing, proofing) proficiency; fluency in AP Style is preferred;
• Impeccable interpersonal skills and a confident, executive presence;
• Proven ability to build relationships within the organization, communicate regularly with key individuals and interface with all levels of staff, including executive management;
• Strategic, innovative thinker with the ability to see emerging trends and the big picture, with equal ability in driving projects from development to completion;
• A technological orientation a plus;
• Superior project management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple priorities with flawless execution;
• An understanding of communications as a change enabler and experience in leading change management initiatives;
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with supreme agility, often switching from one high-priority task to another;
• Experience managing outside agencies and budgets;
• Approachable with the ability to influence across levels within an organization and without direct authority;
• Possess a positive approach and commitment to providing excellent client service.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in a communications related field (Master’s degree is a plus)
