Converse Senior Mens Apparel Designer
Description
As the Sr. Apparel Designer Men’s Tee & Fleece, you’ll design apparel products and manage design team members who will design apparel products with the Converse consumer in mind.
• Designs may include original concepts, selection of appropriate color & materials and modifications to ensure manufacturability.
• You will elevate the consumer experience through superior product craft and will work on designs to create cohesive collections.
• Execute all product details including: construction detail, color, form, style, detail, fit, performance, graphic application, trim, etc.
• Contribute to seasonal creative strategy for products and lines and clearly communicate changes to ensure timely completion of each project.
• Lead in communicating and presenting creative strategies, product concepts and consumer insights to internal and external audiences.
• Continue to advance product, process and design skills reflective of an expert design professional.
• Responsible for building and maintaining healthy cross-functional relationships in development and product merchandising and build matrix relationships outside of the immediate team.
• Share process and product finishing expertise across the category and design function and influence others to evolve creative skills.
• Lead design product processes for assigned product group; ensure feasibility of designs, meeting price points, merchandising needs and product creation timelines.
• Demonstrate expert understanding of products, product development process and the specific markets in which Converse does business.
• Demonstrate leadership that influences process changes (best practices, calendar, manufacturing process, etc).
• Mentor junior members of the Tee & Fleece team.
• Work closely with Design Director throughout creative process.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a design related field and 8 years directly relevant work experience in apparel design
• Understanding of the Male Converse consumer
• In depth experience in Tee’s and Fleece product
• Ability to think strategically about product relevance, product positioning, timing, collections
• Responsibility for managing other designers
• Strong knowledge of Lifestyle brands
• Strong knowledge of fashion and design trends
• Proficient ability to apply and perform apparel design skills, including drawing/sketching, ideation, color theory, use of texture, spacing and scale, visual presentation development and layout that is supported by a portfolio of non-computer-based creative art and graphic design.
• Must be computer literate using Macintosh computer design applications
• Strong communication skills, including meetings and presentations, and ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
• Experience with Creative Culture preferred
