The Director, National Visual Image will craft an innovative and compelling visual strategy and consistent brand voice that elevates our brand, aligns with our fashion point of view and resonates with the Holt Renfrew customer. This individual will lead a team that will work in partnership with internal business partners to implement a cohesive visual strategy across all channels of our business, maximizing sales potential and delivering a total luxury shopping experience that will maintain and enhance Holt Renfrew’s position as the leader of luxury retail in Canada.
Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
• Work in partnership with the SVP, Creative Direction to determine the company’s visual needs and to establish an innovative and cohesive strategy.
• Create a compelling strategic vision for annual plans in regard to floor sets, window displays and product merchandising.
• Build cross-departmental partnerships with Network, Buying, Marketing, Stores and Executives to ensure consistent brand messaging and visual presentation .
• Partner with National Visual Merchandising team to ensure stores are visually and aesthetically compliant and aligned with the creative and marketing strategy.
• Direct visual concepts seasonally and for special events in alignment with the creative and marketing strategy.
• Create visual presentation directives and standards that enhance visual presentation across the country.
• Create seasonal and promotional directives for each location and collaborate with National Visual Merchandising team to implement.
• Produce, analyze and effect change based on reporting and metrics.
• S tay current with the competitive landscape, market developments and identify trends.
• Develop and manage department P&L, budget, logistics and schedule for all production and styling activities.
• Lead, motivate, and retain a team of high performing employees capable of delivering results.
• Demonstrate exceptional thought-leadership to craft inventive and innovative ways to communicate.
• Ensure solutions are based on strong analytics and insights.
• Ensure the path to move from strategy to execution is clearly laid out.
• Present findings and recommendations in a compelling and clear way at all levels in the organization.
The ideal candidate:
• Post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years of post-university work experience, including a minimum of 5+ years of experience in a merchandising, creative or visual leadership position, including experience in retail merchandising at both a field and corporate level
• Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills with the ability to get things done
• Excellent interpersonal skills; a team player who is able to act as both a leader and an individual contributor as required
• Confident and effective communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills
• Bilingual preferred but not essential
• Ability to travel nationally, and internationally as required
• Is adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change
• Passionate about fashion and luxury retailing
