Assistant Editor, Bicycling
Bicycling, the world’s leading cycling publication, is currently seeking a bright, detail-oriented Assistant Editor to contribute to our digital and print content teams. The ideal candidate will have a real passion for cycling and be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a proven writer (with the clips to back it up) who never misses a deadline, has the energy to take on multiple tasks at once, and the drive to develop new skills. In this role, you will write daily articles for print and digital platforms across a variety of topics relevant to the Bicycling audience. This role also collaborates with and provides editorial support to our video, photo, production, and social-media teams. As a key member of Bicycling’s editorial staff based in Emmaus, PA, you will be a key member of a team that balances hard work and drive with a passion for cycling.
Responsibilities include:
• Write articles daily on topics that may include news, racing, health, shopping, and affiliate commerce
• Produce multiple syndicated articles daily from other Rodale brands and external partners
• Create and publish content in Drupal
• Produce Bicycling’s daily digital newsletter
• Write SEO-friendly content for multiple videos each week; assist with video production as needed
• Provide editorial, photo, and production assistance and research as needed
• Contribute to Bicycling’s presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media
• Actively participate in editorial staff meetings and brainstorming sessions
Ideal candidate will possess:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or similar
• Previous editorial or intern experience at a website or print publication
• The ability to write for the web quickly and accurately
• Familiarity with digital publishing, including experience with a CMS
• Some HTML experience, or an eagerness to learn
• Ability to contribute as a member of a team
• Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks and work independently
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• An interest in the cycling lifestyle, or the willingness to embrace it
