Associate Design Project Manager: North America
Department: Store Design & Development
Location: New York, NY
Summary:
The Associate Design Project Manager is a critical position with primary responsibilities of managing the
store design process from initial design concept through store opening. Supporting the Store Design
team and reporting into the Director of Store Design, the candidate is charged with ensuring that Michael
Kors’ store design aesthetics are maintained. Project responsibilities include North American Collection,
Lifestyle, and Outlet stores.
Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Creating schematic designs for all new stores. Assist in coordinating internal review and approval of schematic designs. This typically involves the CEO, President of Retail, Visual and Operations. As required, create sketches and elevations to aid in the review of proposed designs.
• Manage and coordinate with consultants and vendors. They include, but are not limited to, production architects, engineers, renderers, and furniture vendors.
• Manage the design development and construction document drawing production phases. Ensure consultants maintain schedules and are provided information required to complete drawings.
• Review, red-line, and approve all construction documents to ensure drawings are accurate and
• consistent (especially between the architectural and engineering documents).
• Review, red-line and approve all mill-work, storefront, and signage shop drawings.
• Resolve all design-related comments from Landlord to ensure compliance with the Michael Kors store design concept.
• Manage and coordinate the visual department to ensure stores receive all visual/merchandising collateral (includes mannequins, product enhancers, graphics, and artwork).
• Assist in the design and detailing of new fixtures and coordinating prototypes.
• Manage the master MK material library
• Identify and propose solutions to resolve issues that can adversely impact project schedule, cost, or design integrity on multiple projects.
Requirements:
• Architecture or Interior Design Degree. 2-5 years professional experience. Retail architecture/interiors experience preferred.
• AutoCAD, Word, and Excel proficiency required.
• Photoshop proficiency preferred.
• Ability to work independently with strong initiative on many different types of projects simultaneously with aggressive timelines
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task
• Ability to prioritize and work independently
• Excellent presentation skills
• Communicates effectively, both verbally and though drawings and sketches
• Ability to travel
