JOB TITLE: Designer – Bags and Accessories
REPORTING TO: Design Manager
DEPARTMENT: Design
PURPOSE OF JOB: Design and develop in conjunction with the Buyer a fashion forward and dynamic range that fits the brand image
Tasks & Responsibilities
• Work supporting Design Manager and Design Director in delivering the design strategy and vision for Dorothy Perkins
• Using the DP brand vision, to develop product strategy in conjunction with Buyers, that can be translated into commercial products for a range and is in line with current and future trends
• Conduct accurate and timely product development and design packs in line with buying requirement. FE travel required
• Create seasons flow of trend themes in line with macro design inspiration and customer profile
• To create timely and appropriate colour palettes in line with seasonal trends
• To seasonally conduct trend analysis, design presentations and key Accessories product direction
• Conduct competitor reports and advise buying and design departments accordingly
• Build effective relationships with key suppliers to ensure they have all relevant information to deliver required results
• Working with QA on product quality that reflects design direction and customer requirements
• Manage the design critical path in line with buying process
• Continually source componentry and materials for Accessory ranges
Key Experience, Skills & Abilities
• Has a strong bags background as well as a good awareness of accessories such as hats, lightweight scarves, sunglasses, cold weather knitted accessories etc
• Have an understanding of price architecture, margin and selling price for the DP Customer
• Product Development knowledge and experience in factories in FE and India
• Excellent skills with Illustrator, Photoshop and hand sketching to develop accurate product design packs
• Strong influencing skills to drive the design vision
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to build strong working relationships with buying and senior management
• Has potential to line manage, motivate and develop a team
• Strong organisational skills
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Excellent presentation skills
• Must be a Designer with a proven track record with a comparable retailer
• Design Qualification to Degree level
