The North Face: VP, Strategy
POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of the executive leadership team The VP, Strategy leads strategic process and business development for the brand. The VP, Strategy engineers the vision, strategic framework, and specific solutions required to deliver against identified business challenges, consumer needs, and specific business goals. This person is a leader who brings forward outside-in view that challenges internal thinking and provides objective views of opportunities and risks. The VP, Strategy brings a track record in managing successful global initiatives and proven experience in strategic and business planning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Actively serves as a key member of the executive leadership team. Strong partnership with VF Corporate Strategy function to ensure strategy development approach interfaces and aligns with enterprise-wide standards. Provides dynamic, visible and inspirational leadership to positively impact positive team results, execute initiatives, and deliver strong business results.
• Provides analytical, problem solving and strategy development support to The North Face long term business planning processes. Integrates plans and drive the development of the North America and consolidated global TNF strategy plan submitted to the Outdoor Coalition and to VF corporate.
• Conducts market landscape research and analysis designed to surface new opportunities for The North Face to compete and create value for consumers, customers and shareholders. Leverages internal and external data sources and professional networks to develop an intimate understanding of the apparel, equipment and footwear space to drive superior delivery of results.
• Leads cross functional projects in strategy designed to increase profitability and/or strengthen operational performance.
• Oversees the brand's ongoing strategic initiative portfolio; work with initiative owners to provide updates to the management team as needed. Executes projects and/or discrete analyses and present findings and recommendations to senior leadership as requested.
• Partners with functional leaders on strategic cross functional initiatives designed to drive sales growth, margin improvement or expense reduction that support the delivery of brand and business goals.
• Maintains the dashboard of strategic priorities for the executive leadership team. When applicable, partners with President to develop talking points for Corporate Investor Relations.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
• 10+ years of related professional experience.
• BA or BS degree in Marketing, Business, Merchandising or related field and 15+ years of experience in Management Consulting, Strategic Planning, Business Development, Market Research, Investment Banking, Private Equity, or a related field. Experience with the application of consumer insights in developing long range brand business strategy considered a strong plus.
• MBA preferred.
• 8+ years in management including leading a team.
• Outdoor Industry experience is a plus.
• Experience in managing a diverse and creative group of individuals and leading change.
• Demonstrated ability to work with and inspire a broad range of individuals to work toward a common goal.
• Must have a track record in re-establishing procedures, implementing key marketing and sales initiatives and executing processes.
• International experience preferred.
• Excellent communications and presentation skills, both written and verbal, including a strong ability to distill large financial and operational data sets and to craft strategic narratives. Must be able to connect work to the "big picture" brand and business goals.
• Strong judgment, problem-solving and analytical skills, including regression, statistical modeling and company valuation.
• Demonstrated track record of academic and/or professional achievement.
• Understanding of global lifestyle and lead markets' dynamics. Updated on current macroeconomic, consumer, competitor and customer trends.
• Ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with high-level internal customers. Must be able to perform under pressure, short deadlines and in high visibility settings.
• Ability to work cross functionally at all levels of the organization and to manage and prioritize multiple tasks on very tight deadlines. Strong project management, strategic communications and cross collaboration/influencing skills.
• Entrepreneurial orientation, client-service mentality and sensitivity in working across cultures are required.
• Advanced Excel modeling and PowerPoint are required.
