The Buying team is charged with finding, developing, sourcing products that will bring excitement, solutions and information to our customers’ lives. They shop the market to bring the best of Fashion, Jewelry, Beauty, Home Décor and Design as well as the latest in Electronics, right to our customer’s doorstep. The team also works closely with our brand partners to bring the newest trends and products to life, as well as seeks out new brands and products that will surprise and delight all who shop with us.
Buying Internship Overview
The Buying Internship program is designed to provide an overview of the buying and planning functions. Through this Internship, you'll gain experience by working with a Buyer in collaboration with Merchandise Planners, Programming Managers, Television team, Quality Assurance and Vendors to develop and create the product selection that sets HSN apart. The Merchandising Internship provides you with a unique opportunity to observe the development of business strategies that drive sales through assortment selection, product development, pricing, presentation and promotion.
A Day in the Life
• Achieve HSN's internship program global objectives
◦ Understand the company's mission and strategy and develop an understanding of how the global plan helps define business unit strategy and goals
◦ Develop an understanding of divisional organizational structure and the cross-functional relationships that the business unit has with other parts of the business
◦ Gain practical industry experience in a profession that aligns to the desired career path.
• Develop an understanding of the Buying function and how it relates to electronic retailing and company goals
• Attend vendor, open to buy, TV programming, and Today Special meetings
• Develop an understanding of Item Life Cycle in electronic retailing
• Gain an understanding of how to identify market trends for product selection
• Learn to analyze product performance and to develop future assortment build strategies
• Learn to manage inventory levels
• Learn to negotiate buying terms with vendors (price, quality, delivery terms, and markdowns $)

Must Haves
• Working towards a Bachelors Degree in a related field with the ability to obtain course credit through the college or university for unpaid program
• Commit at least 20 consistently scheduled hours per week; interns can work up to 40 hours per week and will have the opportunity to meet the hourly requirements of the university
• Proficient in Microsoft office programs
• If not local, temporary relocation to St. Petersburg, FL.
