Job Description
• Owns and manage vertical calendar; assure that all critical deadlines are met by the cross functional teams and raise exceptions at weekly meetings
• Communicate and work with cross functional teams, including merchant, marketing, store visual, store ops, etc, to maintain Design aesthetic, provide fresh perspectives, create positive momentum with an evolving assortment.
• Supervise teams that:
◦ Creates product by category following CAP design ratios and pricing strategies
◦ Orders sample yardage for Line Review and Line Concept
◦ Provide CAD team with direction on print, yard dye, embroidery and novelty design development
• Trend: with the team: Create and present seasonal concept direction on themes, colors, print inspiration, key fabrics, silhouette direction and life style
◦ Conduct trend research and interpret silhouette/style direction
◦ Create and present seasonal material and print palettes
◦ Create and present seasonal color palette by key category and delivery
◦ Help initiate “Must Haves” for use at Concept and Line Kick Off to present big ideas and key looks
◦ Attend design, fabric fashion, yarn and trim shows
• Line Coordination; Make sure execution of concepts comes beautifully to fruition
◦ Review and approve print design and strike off execution
◦ Attend review of development samples and first fit (2nd fit if needed) for styling and aesthetic comments/input
◦ Approve materials for aesthetic execution, including trims, novelty treatments, etc
◦ Pull together the line by delivery after Line Close to ensure execution of development is up to standard (this is really important)
• Travel to stores and competitive shopping locations to gain inspiration and pick up on trends
Requirements
Background/Job Experience
• Cheerful, can-do attitude
• 12+ years’ experience in design
• Ability to problem solve and partner with appropriate Merchants, Planners and others to effect solutions.
• Supervisory experience working with teams
• A well-developed sense of creativity for color, pattern, yarn, silhouettes, and trends.
• Understanding and/or experience with Plus Sizes
• College Degree or equivalent experience (Design degree preferred).
• Knowledge of competitive intelligence for increased awareness of trends & price points.
• Strong background in multiple fabric arenas as well as working with technical requirements.
• Organized, flexible & team player.
• Strong verbal & written communication skills
• Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite, Word and Excel proficiency required.
• Flex PLM, Adobe Suite (Illustrator & Photoshop)experience.
