Coordinate, manage and execute the activities of a merchandising department or classification. Assist senior leadership in developing, executing and communicating a product strategy that meets or exceeds financial goals and global product strategy.
Leadership
• Create an environment of collaboration and respect amongst key partners including production, design, buying, planning, marketing, and visual
• Ensure direct reports are motivated and understand the “why” behind their day to day work
• Lead the organization to a strong understanding of who we are as a brand within the competitive market
Responsibilities
• Creates and communicates a global vision of the brand by product category
• Creates a product brief to design based on regional feedback, competitive landscape, and global financial goals including pricing and IMU
• Owns the global vision of product mix by life-cycle bucket in all points of distribution
• Applies financial learnings from buying and planning to future assortment strategies
• Works with design and production to quickly adapt on-order for emerging sales trends or declining product categories
• Develops the global line to ensure product offering meets both global merchandising strategies and regional needs
• Creates commonality and one brand vision across all regions
• Communicates headquarters third party assortment vision
• Meets IMU goals while maintaining brand desirability
• Sets global price structure aligning to a good, better, best strategy
• Collaborates on merchandising decisions in daily fittings to ensure product meets customers’ needs
• Presents line to buying and sales team; approves all product tools to ensure a strong understanding of the line
• Disseminates all product changes to key partners
• Approves global product training guides
• Effectively manages and supports the career development of direct report/s to ensure job satisfaction, retention and to identify and develop bench strength
• Establishes cross-functional relationships to promote best practices and process adherence; fosters teamwork
• Bachelors degree required
• At least two years experience as a Merchant or Buyer or equivalent required
• At least one years of supervisory experience required
• At least two years of retail buying, merchandising or equivalent experience desired
• Computer proficiency in MS Office: Excel, Outlook, Word
• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• Previous management experience demonstrating strong leadership, team development and strong cross functional relationships
• An understanding of the fashion garment production process
• Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a team environment
• Excellent English communication skills - verbal and written
• Excellent time management/project skills
• Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
• Ability to recognize and react to changing work demands
• Comfortable and confident in making effective autonomous (and group) decisions in a timely manner
• Goal oriented: ability to stay focused on creating winning results
