Under Armour is looking for a Sr. Sports Marketing Manager for Europe. The position reports directly to the Senior Director of Marketing, EMEA located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The ideal candidate will have a strong proven record of leading sports marketing strategy for a sports or lifestyle brand. Therefore, he/she has to have a precise understanding of how to build and manage key relationships within the world of sports marketing, specifically focused on Europe.
The position is responsible to maximize the effectiveness and value of Under Armour’s sports marketing investments for Under Armour in Europe. This role will be “hands on” in leading a team of individuals to deliver executional excellence and sports marketing for the Under Armour business and brand strategy. Specific responsibilities include strategic business planning for sports marketing assets, managing European rights holders to extract value and preferential treatment for Under Armour and lead in the development and negotiation of sports marketing agreements.
The position will be specifically measured against the ability to drive brand awareness and partner effectiveness and the effective integration and cultivation of the Under Armour team in Sports Marketing including sales, product, operations and marketing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Determine specific objectives to be achieved with key European sports marketing investments where Under Armour has a sponsorship and marketing investment. Develop approved business plans for each sponsorship asset (brand / sales / product / internal).
• Develops and executes an account management plan for sponsorships to extract value for Under Armour.
• Identifies opportunities to increase the effectiveness of existing sports marketing investments and sports marketing programs and work with country sports marketing managers to implement necessary changes / additions.
• Lead the development and negotiation of sports marketing agreements with the participation of European Management, Business Affairs and Legal. Captures market needs and translates them into specific value adding activation opportunities through the usage of existing rights, expansion of existing rights or negotiation of new tactical opportunities.
• Leads, receives, centralizes and identifies new opportunities of sports marketing investments with third parties / right holders in Europe. Distributes opportunities for review and consideration to the appropriate function area (MD, Mktg, Sales, HQ Sports Marketing).
• Design rolling 18-month sports marketing plan tied to European business plan.
• Lead and manage the annual and seasonal sports marketing calendar for Europe dictating process and priorities for all initiatives.
• Direct all marketing communications with Sports Marketing at Headquarters.
• Work closely with the sales organization to develop comprehensive, integrated marketing platforms that drive sell through of seasonal and core product lines featuring sports marketing
assets.
• Supervise execution of sports marketing platforms around seasonal and category initiatives.
• Control and manage annual budget for sports marketing in Europe.
• Drive and manage all relationships with sports industry suppliers, promoters, agents in Europe.
• Drive management of the sports marketing timeline and process, protect and develop brand voice across all consumer touch-points.
• Procure consumer research and Europe market analysis to understand the competition, sports marketing dynamics and asset evaluation.
• Prepare presentations on the Company’s sports marketing strategies and plans to share with internal and external partners of Under Armour.
• Liaise with sales, operations and finance to integrate all activities and initiatives.
• Assist sales team with materials required for key account presentations/sell-ins.
• Report on/ measure the contribution of all sports marketing activities to establish ROI.
• Build a high-performing Sports Marketing team centrally and in key markets.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sports Marketing or related field and 10-12 years related experience in European sports marketing and sponsorship.
• Knowledge of sport, the industry structure and leadership of the organizations.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with team members across all departments.
• Knowledge of marketing principles, sports marketing and the use of sponsorships in the overall brand building process.
• Knowledge of strategic marketing and the discipline of business planning.
• Effective leadership / influencing skills.
• Strong presentation skills. Both verbal and written
• A second language to English is preferred.
• Ability to work as a team member
