Senior Merchandising & Operations Manager, Nike & Chelsea FC
London
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the world's leading sports brand as it embarks on an exciting offence within its football category across London.
As the Senior Merchandising & Operations Manager for the brand new partnership between Nike and Chelsea FC (NCFC), you will be responsible for leading the Nike product and merchandising strategy across both Megastore and stadium locations.
You will own the final assortment decision across all product types including Nike, NCFCM licensed non Nike product, and Chelsea Football Club owned rights.
Accountabilities:
• Play a leadership role on the NCFCM leadership team and support all functions in driving the business success
• Manage NCFCM merchandising and operations team responsible for design, development, and structure of all product ranges across Nike / Nike licensed and CFC licensed for all bricks and mortar CFC retail
• Ensure the merch and buying team create range plans that achieve optimum SKU efficiency and range depth
• Overall responsibility for budget, space, and fixture level planning across all product silos
• Manage and lead store layout and budgets between Nike and licensees continually finessing the right balance of premium and profitability
• Responsible for final sign off on range selections attending key Nike and Licensee sales gates to maximise the partnership
• Ensure the merch team maximise profitability by predicting and monitoring sales trends and accurately controlling stock levels within set budgets ensuring high stock turn and limited stock clearance to protect margin and approve seasonal sales lists
• Ensure team are active in market research for product development across retail and sports on international basis and benchmark against leaders in market
• Collaborate with Nike sales / brand marketing / retail brand / and digital teams on annual product range sign-offs and launches, monthly activations across retail and online stores, product launches and photo-shoots
• Lead the Licensing process by structuring deals in most efficient manner, driving forward existing deals and reporting back to the NCFCM leadership team in a timely and accurate manner
• Ensure documentation and contractual obligations are aligned to NCFCM legal requirements
• Join licensee business reviews, measuring licensee performance to their business plan and challenging licensee to continually improve performance in terms of product development, innovation, sales, and distribution
• Ensure team develop market awareness of what other retailers and licensees are doing with regard to sports, and especially football merchandise
• Represent NCFCM alongside the Buying and Merchandising Manager at Licensing Trade Shows, seeking new business opportunities globally
• Key conduit between NCFCM and Nike across the Nike game plan process interacting at all levels with key Nike team mates across sales / merchandising and product
• To mentor 5 direct reports Via the CFE process with regular one-to-ones, PDP reviews, target setting, development plans
• To manage, develop and motivate. Empower direct reports to run their businesses to the highest standards and to ensure they have the tools enabling them to work efficiently and effectively
• To ensure all staff are correctly trained in all aspects of their role including management and mentoring of their own direct reports
• Chair weekly merchandise meeting and follow up with actions
• Ensure B&M team supply timely and accurate data to NCFCM leadership team
• Oversee the operational pipeline between the DC and Stamford Bridge. Directly manage and develop the DC manager
• Prepare and present departmental budgets annually for NCFCM approval
• Responsible for monthly P&L reviews and to direct each department manager on necessary actions to address short-falls in their business areas
• Review weekly/monthly merchandise reports on sales v budget/PY, KPIs, sales by category v budget/PY
• Approve all stock and non-stock POs controlling spend within each business function
Qualifications
• Proven experience within Merchandise and Retail Operations
• Must be detail oriented and organized leader with the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Independent self-starter with pro-active approach to work.
• Excellent follow through skills with attention to deadlines.
• Demonstrate professionalism and the ability to manage work relationships in a respectful and courteous manner.
• Must be a team player with the ability to establish strong relationships across all levels within Chelsea FC and Nike
• Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, Word, PPT and Adobe Acrobat.
• Legal: Assist to NCFCM legal department on identifying unofficial products to take actions against counterfeiters
