Communications & HSNi Cares Internship - Fall 2017
The communications department oversees all corporate and consumer communications for the HSNi portfolio of 8 brands. The team is responsible for creating the internal and external communications strategy for the business, elevating overall brand awareness, executive positioning, communications and public relations events, and HSNi Cares, the philanthropic arm of the company.
A Day in the Life
Achieve HSN’s internship program global objectives
• Understand the company’s mission and strategy and develop an understanding of how the global plan helps define business unit strategy and goals.
• Develop an understanding of divisional organizational structure and the cross-functional relationships that the business unit has with other parts of the business.
• Gain practical industry experience in a profession that aligns to desired career path.
Consumer Communications
• Media Outreach
◦ Learn how to build a strategic plan for a product launch
◦ Develop story ideas and pitches to support various HSN brands and HSNi overall
◦ Write press release/media alert to support upcoming events
• Product Placement
◦ Learn importance/value of product placement for retailers
◦ Facilitate product requests from agency and media outlets
◦ Learn how to gather and prep samples for pitching outlet
• Social Media for PR
◦ Learn what is relevant for our PR social media Channels
◦ Understand the HSN PR “Voice” for social media
Corporate Communications
• Learn about the role of Corporate Communications at HSN
• Participate in the development and execution of quarterly Town Meeting and Leadership meetings
• Develop an understanding of the importance of executive positioning, meet with executives as appropriate
HSNi Cares
• Learn business objectives for corporate philanthropy
• Develop skills for developing and executing multi platform campaigns
• Attend HSN Cares cross functional team meetings
• Participate in HSN Cares local events
Keys to Success
Must Haves:
• Working towards a Bachelors Degree in a related field with the ability to obtain course credit through the college or university for unpaid program
• Commit at least 20 consistently scheduled hours per week; interns can work up to 40 hours per week and will have the opportunity to meet the hourly requirements of the university
• Proficient in Microsoft office programs
• If not local, temporary relocation to St. Petersburg, FL.
