Talent Relations Internship Program Overview
The Talent Relations Internship program is designed to provide an overview of the HSN Talent Department and is a hands-on opportunity to work in retail entertainment television. This department oversees the scouting, casting, booking and managing of talent for HSN’s on-air and off-air projects. We serve as the connection between talent and various internal departments, in addition to maintaining and developing the network's relationship with our talent. Through the Internship program, you will have the unique opportunity to interact with a live, 24/7, studio environment working with executives, department employees, Show Hosts and On-Air Guests. You will gain invaluable insight into host show planning, guest training and coordination and overall talent support before, during and after each on-air appearance. In addition, you will shadow several hosts, producers and guest coordinators to learn how on-air talent interacts with the live show team and partners.
A Day in the Life
• Achieve HSN’s internship program global objectives
◦ Understand the company’s mission and strategy and develop an understanding of how the global plan helps define business unit strategy and goals.
◦ Develop an understanding of divisional organizational structure and the cross-functional relationships that the business unit has with other parts of the business.
◦ Gain practical industry experience in a profession that aligns to desired career path.
• Overview of the Internship Opportunity
◦ Learn how casting sessions work by attending auditions and callbacks
◦ Learn how to meet with the guests, partners and hosts to discuss shows and off-air opportunities
◦ Learn how the talent team works closely with producers, buyers, planners and executives to make sure all the show needs are met.
◦ Shadow Guest Coordinators, Casting Director, Talent Trainer, Guests and Hosts to learn more about each role
◦ Learn how the Guest Coordinators support all guests before, during and after their HSN appearance
◦ Learn about HSN social media needs for hosts and guests
◦ Participates and learns how to add support in talent meetings, calls and castings
◦ Participate in production meetings that discuss future shows and expectations.
◦ Participates in special event and/or fixed programming
Must Haves
• Working towards a Bachelors Degree in a related field
• Classes in Television Producing or Production. Some retail experience is helpful, but not required
• Ability to obtain course credit thru the college or university
• Juniors and seniors preferred
• Must be able to participate in a minimum of 3 days per week, with punctuality and regular attendance.
• 8 to 12 weeks at minimum, depending upon length of semester
• Experience with basic video editing skills (Final Cut Pro, Avid, iMovie).
• Detail-oriented, good at time managing projects and meeting timelines/deadlines
• Some experience dealing with Customers or Guests
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Looking for a student interested in learning about talent relations, not someone that is interested in being in-front of the camera.
