Position Title: Assistant Merchant
Position Reports To: Associate Merchant
Location: Home Office - New Albany, OH
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Merchants at Abercrombie & Fitch are the leaders of the business, managing millions of dollars of product each day. They handle all business and production aspects of specific clothing categories (sweatshirts, outerwear, denim, etc.) for the company. From picking out the coolest styles and trends for our stores to working with international partners to reading sales and identifying the next big trend, our merchants are involved with every aspect of the product from conception to the sales floor. Entrepreneurial in nature, merchants lead a cross-functional team to maximize the financial success of their product line. Merchants at A&F must posses the unique ability to be both analytical and creative on a daily basis. MERCHANDISING RESPONSIBILITIES
ANALYZE THE BUSINESS
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan for business strategies by negotiating margins, managing profitability and reacting to change while making strategic decisions based on current sales information
PRESENT TO SENIOR LEADERSHIP
Lead and contribute to presentations of selling analysis, customer insights and trend ideas to keep teams updated on all business information
MANAGE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Be involved in product development from sketch to finished product by managing cross-functional teams as well as communicating with international vendors and business partners
TREND SPOT
Shop our competitors and identify emerging fashion trends in the market
To be considered for this amazing opportunity, all candidates must have:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
• Proven leadership experience
• Ability to thrive in team-based settings
• Passion for the role and the A&F brands
• Desire to take on the responsibility of running a portion of a multi-billion dollar business
• Strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate confidently with senior-level leaders
• Ability to balance between a robust analytical capability and an interest in the creative process
• Capability to translate emerging fashion trends into the A&F handwriting and brand heritage
