Responsibilities:
The Tech Designer/patternmaker for Denim Category will ensure the fit and construction for Lucky Brand is executed to meet the needs of design and production. Responsibilities include calendar adherence and spec reviews. The Denim tech designer will be able to establish, develop block patterns and direct fit strategy, to include construction detail, measurement and grading. This individual will work with manager to fine tune technical design skills (grading, construction, communication, etc.). Technical Designers can expect to gain experience across multiple product categories. The opportunity for learning and career growth is immense.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
CALENDAR ADHERENCE - development
• Set up and daily maintenance of trackingreports
• Notify manager immediately of any pending tracking issues
• Communicate with overseas partners and agents to answer any questions regarding submission of samples and comments
• Track and manage workflow and workload for own product and ensure product areas are maintained with cross-functional team; gather information and update all reports as necessary
FIT COMMENTS – development and production
• Match bill of material with sketch and garment construction information
• Complete all Tech Packages in Full Circle (this includes technical specs and construction)
• Complete all fit comments in a timely manner
• Provide complete and articulate fit comments (includes any needed point of measures, sketches and/or digitals)
• Email and clarify fit comments to overseas partners
• Create and maintain digital files for each block
• Recommend raw material and trim components to meet brand standards and uphold design intent
FITTINGS - development and production
• Attend each fitting prepared with tech packs
• Lead fit session on model or dress form and take initiative of specific product(s)
• Execute design and fit intent into bulk production while maintaining corporate standards
• Collaborate with designer, merchandiser, manager and business partners to ensure the desired product is achieved, while retaining production schedule
• Correct patterns as needed to achieve best possible fit
• Organize and store all samples seasonally
• Identify potential production, quality and costing issues while making recommendations to ensure brand integrity
• Ensure size and fit consistency across product categories
GRADING - production
• Apply established grade rules to approved styles
• Collaborate with manager to create new grade as required
• Review established sizes set for styles and products
• Evaluate garment to determine compliance of specs, construction and fit intent
REFERENCE, PREPRODUCTION and STOCK SAMPLES - production
• Review reference, preproduction, and stock samples on fit models; alert production and quality control if there is a problem
• Email reference and preproduction summaries of problems overseas
• Email top of production problems to in house & overseas personnel
PARTNERSHIPS & COMMUNICATIONS:
• Collaborate with business partners to gain clear direction and consensus of fit intent
• Effectively communicate fit intent, balance and construction to vendors via pattern, sketches and/or digital images
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Patternmaking and draping skills – including the ability to determine and communicate fit corrections
• Knowledge of construction standards and manufacturing methods
• Experience with garment construction a must
• Ability to determine and communicate complete construction details
• Ability to grade
• Mastery of Adobe Illustrator and sketching
• Must know Microsoft Office Programs, PDS and Gerber
• Ability to mentally complete basic mathematical computations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to proactively trouble shoot and problem solve
• Collaborative team player
• Exceptional organization skills required as well as the ability to proactively self prioritize workflow based on deadlines in a fast paced, ever changing environment
• Own resolution of conflicts while appropriately involving management when necessary
• Meets and strives to increase productivity standards; looks for ways to improve and promote quality
• Effectively use office equipment including computers, telephones, copiers and faxes
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Minimum educational level:
• AA in Apparel Manufacturing, Design, Patternmaking or equivalent from an accredited college or university
Minimum experience:
• 5-7 years knowledge in patternmaking including grading, construction and fit
• Denim fit experience is a must
Physical Capabilities:
• Visual acuity
• Sit for extended periods of time in one position
• Ability to stand and maintain mobility for long periods of time during a fit session
• Possess normal manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
• Ability to lift an adult dress form when adding or removing garments (35lbs).
