Apparel Design
A&F designers create high quality, aspirational product for each of our unique lifestyle brands. The designer's role at A&F is to take the product from initial concept through the production of the garment. Designers stay on top of emerging trends through shopping the market, researching vintage, and staying in tune with our customers. This creative research fuels the big picture trend and mood direction at the beginning of each season. Designers focus on every aspect of product development, from fabric and trim selection to editing how the garment fits on live models.
Training Program
The Design Training Program is an intensive multi-week orientation that will build upon your formal design education and give you the tools necessary to apply that knowledge and experience here at A&F. Through hands-on classroom sessions and on-the-job training, you will develop a solid foundation of the designer's responsibilities throughout the product cycle. At the conclusion of the program, trainees take on full responsibilities of an Assistant Designers and are expected to make an immediate impact in their product area.
Apparel Designer Responsibilities
• Product Design - Responsible for creative input for a specific product category
• Trend Spotting - Research and shop to identify emerging fashion trends and vintage samples
• Collaboration - Work with cross-functional team (Merchandising, Design, Sourcing, Technical Design, as well as factories/vendors) to ensure that the design vision is being carried out with integrity
• Presentation Skills - Present designs and vocalize point of view regarding relevant business and market trend findings
