Purpose & Scope:
Ralph Lauren is seeking a Director of Studio Photography and Post Production to manage the Ralph Lauren photography and retouching team and ensure the timely, effective and high-quality delivery of digital assets. In this role, the qualified candidate will be responsible for managing the daily operations of a team of photographers, digital techs, and retouchers, in a high-volume, fast-paced photo studio. Responsibilities include ensuring the high-quality and timely delivery of retouched imagery and improving the on set processes to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
The Director of Photography and Post Production will work proactively with a multi-location team of studio positions and operations leads. The qualified candidate will fuel innovation that drives sales and a world-class customer experience. Superior critical thinking, employee-development skills and on-set experience, along with the ability to manage competing priorities between and across business groups, are a must. The role is based in Long Island City, New York with some travel required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Directly manage a team of retouchers (staff and freelance), photographers, and digital technicians.
Provide technical training to all roles on in house systems, file naming, lighting, and workflows
• Oversee the relationship with off shore retouching partner. Ensure the partner meets daily SLA’s,
trouble shoot quality and flow questions, and communicate volume on a monthly and seasonal basis
• Establish short- and long-term strategies to manage the resource allocation of retouched assets
globally
• Demonstrate thought leadership around digital industry trends and technologies. Apply best practices
that enhance the overall customer experience.
• Function as the primary liaison for photo quality (color, cropping) between RL and the studio’s internal
partners, including global digital sites, wholesale partners, and brands
• Establish performance metrics for the team to reflect best-in-class photography and retouching
standards
• Monitor quality and timeliness of all studio output to ensure asset delivery commitments are met and
that other creative initiatives meet client expectations
• Develop and lead workflow protocols and procedures as they relate to new images and ways of
shooting
• Work closely with the production and equipment team to monitor the equipment and
infrastructure needed to operate the studios
• Own the relationship with IT as it relates to the servicing and improvement of retouching stations and
on set computer equipment
• Develop strong, proactive and collaborative working relationships across the organization, especially
with the creative, samples management, technology and production teams
• Serve as the point person on all photography questions in satellite studio in North Carolina. Provide on
going training and development through quarterly visits and biweekly calls
