Position Summary:
Provide Quality direction and build collaborative relationships with the Global Brands (Smashbox, Glam Glow) so that Quality Assurance more clearly and directly understands consumer behavior and expectations in order to protect Brand equity and affect consumer satisfaction. Apply Brand learnings of consumer behavior and expectations by linking them into appropriate quality strategies, systems and requirements. Educate the Brand on what it is that Quality Assurance does and how QA assures product quality and safety. Together with the Brand, monitor and improve key consumer performance metrics that will help to grow the business. Be the direct contact for quality problem notification and resolution to the Brands and vice versa from the Brands. Actively participate in the monthly GCC consumer complaint reviews with the Brands and ensure that when changing consumer behavior or expectations occur, they are translated into revised quality requirements.
Lead and facilitate improvement initiatives which ensure that all suppliers’ processes are capable of meeting the high standards and quality expectations demanded by the Estee Lauder companies and its customers. The Director will represent the Estee Lauder Corporation to the highest level of Senior Management and/or ownership of the Supplier in an effort to drive cooperation and compliance with our corporate policies and specifications and must have the technical and interpersonal skills to influence the vendor base to manufacture and deliver per our expectations.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Brand:
• Build and sustain a QA to Brand and Brand to QA partnering relationship. Learn and understand the Brand's mission, values and consumer requirements and in collaboration with the Brand build the quality design and execution into the Brand. Establish the method and means to track performance and develop objective goals.
• Actively participate in the C2M process (concept/design, development, 1st production and distribution phases of product launches via "Right First Time" stage gate meetings or Brand specific commercialization processes to ensure a successful launch. Work closely with the QALT, GBSC, GSR, Product Development and R&D to ensure that appropriate product quality requirements are established and implemented.
• Lead the communication of quality problem notification/resolution to the Brand and vice versa. Actively pursue timely response and final preventive resolution to quality issues working with the QALT and functional partners. Active participant/co leads GCC monthly meetings.
• Participate in product line reviews and standards management. Participate in the supplier performance tracking program (GQMS) and in the supplier excellence program. Share "best practices" resolutions globally across brands and regions as a key part of the fragrance category lead responsibly.
• Active member of the QALT, participate in staff/brand lead meetings, contribute to the global QA strategy/objectives.
Supplier:
• Responsible for quality oversight, quality performance reporting and continuous improvement activities at assigned suppliers (10-20 suppliers depending on commodity)
• Subject matter expert for specified area within the assigned supplier commodity (i.e. glass, injection molding, decoration, third party manufacturing, raw Material manufacturing)
• Participate in DTO and DFMEA’s to integrate quality assurance into the upfront development process.
• Participate in defining tool qualification program with technical packaging and the supplier(s) of primary components.
• Collaborate with Brand partners to ensure that brand needs are clearly defined and addressed throughout the life cycle of products/projects.
• Lead global projects within the Supplier Quality Assurance team to support the strategy and drive alignment at a global level.
• Work with up-front development teams to ensure that supplier is capable of producing desired product without major issues.
• Work with the receiving plant, packaging development, technical packaging, and all other parties to define new product critical features important to the receiving plant, distribution and customers.
• Maintain a two-way communication with the receiving site until after the launch on potential improvements on new components
• Implement new systems and working practices to improve process and product quality at the supplier’s facility.
• Analyze accuracy and capability of supplier processes, procedures and equipment to meet EL quality parameters.
• Carry out product and/or process audits in new and existing suppliers as necessary.
• Develop CAPA plans together with audited suppliers, and communicate concerns/accomplishments within the Supply Chain organization.
• Support Site QA by troubleshooting important issues related to product quality and/or compatibility with filling & packaging equipment.
Qualifications:
• BS/MS
• Minimum 8 years experience in managerial positions, preferable in Quality Assurance, in consumer goods (cosmetics, packaged goods, food or pharmaceuticals).
• Demonstrated success in handling multiple cross-functional projects, new product development process, and project management. Demonstrated communication, leadership and human relations skills - able to work well with all elements within and outside of the organization.
• Experienced in the use of quality tools with a sound statistical base: Quality Management systems, process mapping, tooling qualification, FMEA and others. Knowledge of packaging manufacturing processes is a plus.
• Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft products. (SAP knowledge an added advantage). Strong interpersonal, communications (oral, written, influence and persuasiveness), technical report/writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to travel for 3-4 day periods on short notice
