Major Responsibilities
The Vice President, Tax will be responsible for effectively managing the U.S. tax function within the organization. The ideal candidate should have strong transactional and some international tax experience. The successful candidate will possess the ability to lead a team of internal and external tax professionals, and the ability to work well cross-functionally.
Role responsibilities include:
1. Oversee all U.S. tax related areas, including income and commodity/sales tax
2. Work effectively with external advisors (direct and manage) and business units to devise, review and implement transaction related tax structures and monitoring existing tax structures and risks
3. Review of U.S. tax reporting and compliance functions, to ensure complete and accurate disclosure of tax related activity in corporate documents
4. Provide tax guidance, advice and risk management support to the business units, and the SVP, Tax
5. Oversee the U.S. tax department’s commitment to corporate compliance, internal controls, policies and procedures
6. Participate in special projects initiated by senior leadership
7. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.S. tax legislative developments and related implications
8. Ensure timely and accurate filing of all Federal and state income tax returns, estimates, and extensions as well as all related compliance
9. Serve as the primary contact with IRS Revenue agents and state auditors to present HBC U.S. positions and effectively negotiate favorable settlements to minimize tax costs to HBC
10. Initiate Federal and state tax planning strategies including preparing and negotiating RFP’s with external advisors, provide technical assistance with various tax issues, and assist with other special projects of the Finance Team
11. Financial statement reporting of income taxes and effective tax rate management
12. FIN48 analysis and review of tax risks for financial statement reporting
13. Develop, mentor and guide members of the U.S. tax department
Qualifications

Professional Qualifications
• Professional accounting designation (ie. CPA) or tax designation
• 10+ years relevant tax experience
• Extensive knowledge of both Federal and state income tax law, FAS109, FIN48, and SEC reporting as well as general business knowledge, and fundamentals of accounting
• Strong tax research skills, writing skills, and communication skills
Educational Credentials
Bachelor’s Degree (accounting major preferred), Masters in Taxation desirable.
