Job Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Lead the strategy, development and implementation of operating innovation, processes and supporting technology to achieve increased efficiency and enable a consistently high level of execution in all Marketing processes. Improves Marketing Operations effectiveness through the development and ownership of business processes, capability and technology road-maps. Partners closely with Marketing and Cross Functional leadership, Technology teams and Marketing Operations leadership to develop and prioritize Process and Technology Innovation projects. Ensures proposed process and technology solutions are aligned with business objectives, company goals and meet established financial targets/execution objectives (costs/benefits).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
innovation, technology, and process optimization
• Review, Analyze and evaluate ideas and opportunities to develop new capabilities or enhance existing capabilities to improve marketing effectiveness and execution, operational efficiency and team member engagement.
• Collaborate with Marketing Operations Innovation leadership to develop and prioritize high value ideas to include in innovation and prototyping processes.
• Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in retail marketing and marketing operations.
• Develop portfolio and road-map recommendations for Marketing Operations & IT leadership to advance capabilities critical to market differentiation and managing risk in a competitive market.
project management
• Develop project timelines and manage the execution of process improvement initiatives
• Partner with IT Planning to develop business cases and charters for technology projects including scope definition and key performance metrics tied to program benefits. Provide input to Program Charter documentation.
• Approve process and business requirements scope ensuring the process and technology scope is aligned with business goals and KPIs used to measure successful delivery.
• Approve scope changes and key program decisions ensuring that delivered scope continues to meet business priorities and key program objectives.
• Partner with business leadership to develop business implementation plans to drive acceptance of new process and technology and support change management efforts during and following project implementations.
• Partner in development of executive communications materials including: project status reports, Steering Committee updates, process optimization and performance management updates (financial benefits).
strategic planning
• Align company strategy and marketing performance objectives to marketing business capabilities. Articulate future needs, current gaps and potential risks as they may impact the ability to meet company goals.
• Develop process and technology road-maps including the delivery of new capabilities, and enhancement of existing capabilities. Develop business cases (financial benefits) for road-maps as well as individual projects.
• Audit existing business processes, capabilities and technology to ensure they are meeting goals for efficiency, performance and execution. Escalate risks and financial impacts associated with at-risk capabilities.
• Develop recommendations for funding priorities and sequencing of technology/process deliverables based on marketing and company goals.
• Act as key stakeholder for external projects / programs impacting Marketing Operations teams and processes. Ensure critical marketing technology and processes components are included in the overall deliverable.
resource management
• Manage Marketing Operations Process and Technology Innovation team, oversee day-to-day work, review quality of deliverables and provide ongoing professional development guidance.
• Manage Contract resources and negotiation of vendor contracts for staff augmentation resources. This will include budget and performance management of any contract or vendor supplied resources.
• Identify Resource gaps in Marketing teams that may put projects and deliverables at risk. Partner with Marketing Operations Managers to develop staffing recommendations and staff augmentation plans to support successful delivery of projects and transition plans for business teams.
• Develop career and develop paths for team members and drive development of domain expertise and functional knowledge of the Kohl’s Marketing business areas.

• Manages direct reports, systems and projects to achieve unit goals in accordance with Company policies and practices.
• Prepares and analyze unit plans and reports.
• Provides leadership by exhibiting influence and expertise, thus affecting the results of the operating area.
• Creates an effective work environment by developing a common vision, setting clear objectives, expecting teamwork, recognizing outstanding performance and maintaining open communications.
• Develops staff through coaching, providing performance feedback, providing effective performance assessments and establishing performance and development plans.
QUALIFICATIONS
required
• Deep knowledge of Retail Marketing operations, processes and functional capabilities. Understanding of end-to-end marketing processes for a data driven marketing organization.
• 5+ Experience in a Retail marketing organization in a business role or Process Optimization and Execution capacity directly serving a retail marketing organization.
• 5+ years managing large scale projects including development of project communications materials and executive communications materials.
• 1+ years experience working on large scale technology programs either as a business stakeholder, business analyst or project manager.
• Demonstrated experience developing strategic plans and business road-maps based on strategic imperatives and financial or operational targets.

• 5+ years experience managing direct reporting resources
• 5+ years experience managing contract resources or negotiating agreements with managed service providers
• 5+ years experience developing business capability road-maps and technology roadmaps for a large scale organization. (4-5 annual projects concurrently)
• 3-4 years experience developing business requirements, technology requirements and business case documents to support planning and execution of process improvement and technology initiatives.
• Understanding and prior execution of change management methodologies including risk assessments, development of business mobilization plans and the development of risk management and change measurement frameworks.
• 2-3 years experience working with external vendors, software providers and service providers to develop best practices, solution recommendations and joint business plans.
• Retail consulting experience in best in class firm. Strategic planning and process improvement Strong analytical skills
special requirements
• Travel requirements 4-5 weeks a year (Industry Conferences, California development offices)
