We are looking for a Senior Director of Merchandising to drive our North America (NA) merchandising division. This role is located at our world headquarters (WHQ) in Boston, Massachusetts.
For Converse merchants, everything begins and ends with the consumer. The Converse merchandising team obsesses our consumer needs and are industry leaders in creating the right product mix in the marketplace across the globe. They blend art with science to bring the Converse vision to life in our physical and digital retail environments to ensure a premium category consumer experience.
In this role, you will lead the NA apparel and footwear merchandising team and collaborate with the regional product creation teams to drive profitable, relevant, consumer-right assortments. As part of the global merchandising team you will see beyond the current trends and identify what’s next to deliver the right assortment to the right place, at the right time, and at the right price.
You will be an integral member of both the North America Leadership Team and the Global Merchandising Leadership Team. You report into the VP/GM Converse NA and the VP Converse Global Merchandising.
The Merchandising pipeline
The nature of the work is focused on driving integrated, profitable, relevant product assortments that express the Converse brand vision in the marketplace.
• Manage team and set team and individual goals that align with department and function goals
• Coach staff, create opportunities for staff development, make hiring decisions, and drive performance management, recognition, and rewards
• Develop team structure that facilitates and maximizes individual and team performance
Your specific responsibilities include:
• North America Merchandising spokesperson towards both internal and external key stakeholders: Global and Territory Merchandising, Product Management, Brand and Sales within the geography
• Ultimate integrator across the function within the geography and global key stakeholders
• Manage the total marketplace from DTC to wholesale partners while building assortment strategies to meet the market demands
• Drive the development and implementation of processes to improve forecasting, sales, and profitability
• Lead a merchandising team and deliver clear direction for Footwear, Apparel, and Accessories. Merchandised line plans in NA:
Share market knowledge and insights, and collaborate on establishing seasonal priorities.
Deliver geography-specific merchandising seasonal channel, account, banner strategies, and assortments to Sales. Complete geography hind-sighting, marketplace insights, capacity, and adapt assortments as needed.
Identify/anticipate and predict targeted consumer buying trends and retail developments to ensure product leadership and maximize distribution potential.
Senior Director Merchandising, Converse (NORTH AMERICA)
Product Management
• Identify line priorities to drive consumer and market-oriented product opportunities by considering brand positioning, target consumers, global and local market, pricing strategies, and distribution
• Lead the Regional Merchandising function of seasonal product plans to achieve brand and category financial objectives with respect to revenue, margin, SKU efficiency, and distribution channel mix
• Manage team execution of overall forecasts against category and brand objectives
• Direct product marketing presentations to key accounts and to merchandising teams at a regional level
Qualifications: What you bring to Converse
• Fundamental footwear and/or apparel merchandising experience: you have worked for global organizations to create and deliver fashion product collections and assortments that meet consumer and channel distribution needs
• A track record of progressive and successful similar experience (minimum 10 years) within a Fortune 500 / multinational company, as Sr Footwear Product Line Director, Footwear & Apparel Merchandising Director, Footwear Business Unit Director, or similar position
• Ability to manage product delivery calendars with competing priorities across a global organization
• High level of merchandising and product acumen, along with market, trend & consumer mapping
• Proven leadership experience managing team performance including the ability to mentor, inspire, develop, promote people, and maximize their potential in a fast-changing environment
• Exceptional influencing, communication, and presentation skills
• Ability to deliver results against tight and complex timelines
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor degree in Retail Management, Marketing, Business Administration, Business Management, or a related field
• Domestic and international travel (limited Int’l) required (±25% of time on the road)
