External Job Description
The Director, Sourcing is responsible for leading the domestic direct sourcing functions for assigned categories / brands. Accountable for growing direct sourcing business, while helping the brand(s) achieve margin, quality, etc. goals. Serves as the divisional liaison on all direct sourced product development activities related to the sourcing offices. Leads all aspects of customer service for assigned customer groups. Partners with brand to support the establishment of the direct sourcing budget and margin goals. Supports international production offices with respect to brand business management.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Drive direct sourcing business in partnership with the brand as well as overseas offices, ensuring alignment with business trends and financial goals.
• Attend core meetings, travel with merchants to develop/maintain solid understanding of market trends and customer intimacy.
• Utilize proactive behaviors and a high level of customer service / customer focus to create strategic opportunities through direct sourcing. Review business statistics to maximize growth in key categories.
• Provide high level of customer service to brand and brand partners by consistently building strong effective partnerships with merchant, design, tech design, production, etc. teams.
• Develops and implements the overall direct sourcing for assigned categories/brands.
Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Experience:
• 7-10 years direct sourcing experience, with at least 5 working for or with a US based apparel/accessory retailer
Skills:
• Thorough understanding of the product lifecycle
• Demonstrated ability to build effective cross-brand / cross-functional relationships
• Knowledge of apparel construction, including fabric and trim
• Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and develop direct reports
• Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
• Project management / change management experience preferred
• Ability to multitask
• Strong customer service focus
• Proficient in: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
• Experience working in a Design, Supply Chain or Sourcing technology (PLM, Tradestone, etc.) preferred
