Location: Athleta is relocating to San Francisco on or around Feb 1, 2017! This role will be located at 1 Harrison Street in San Francisco, Ca.
Start Date: The anticipated start date for this role will be January 29th, 2017 or therefore after.
Summary:
The Design Director is responsible for all ecommerce design content, including site, email and promo. This position requires a highly motivated and highly collaborative individual with a sharp attention to detail—someone who is not only an expert designer, but also a seasoned leader who loves to inspire and mentor a team. The Design Director reports to the Senior Creative Director and oversees a team of designers and production artists.
Responsibilities:
• Oversees and is hands-on with the design look-and-feel, ensuring alignment with all brand creative standards when necessary
• Reviews work and provides strong art direction on a day-to-day basis to ensure the design output is brand appropriate, and all marketing requirements are completed on time, and with the highest standard possible, for both internal and external reviews
• Responsible for scheduling workflow, delegating projects to designers, routing approval comps and meeting deadlines
• Mentors team members. Monitors their development and growth, giving feedback, both positive and constructive
• Ability to present and communicate effectively to business partners and senior leaders
• Works closely with interdepartmental and cross-brand leads, including Marketing, Merchandising, Creative, and Production
• Receives direction from the Creative Director, but is expected to bring ideas and present solutions to issues raised. Works actively with their team to solve problems and produce results
Qualifications:
• Hands-on web design experience and a solid grasp of information architecture, usability and technology
• Expert command of typography, color, composition and hierarchy; understanding how these elements work together to form a quality design solution
• Ability to be both creative and technical
• Ability to communicate/partner with analytics & development teams
• Expert knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design
• Expert knowledge of the latest web technologies, cross browser and platform issues. Responsive experience preferred
• Able to interact productively during brainstorming and kick-off meetings
• Must be able to handle a number of projects simultaneously
• Must be detailed oriented, well organized and able to thrive in deadline driven, fast-paced and fast turnaround environment
• Maintain professional demeanor despite unscheduled work, edits and quick timelines
• Enthusiasm for the creative and technical processes
• Outstanding attitude and ability to respond effectively and appropriately to feedback
• Superb presentation skills
• Retail experience required
• BA in Graphic Design or related area
• 10+ years professional experience in web design
• 5+ years management experience
