Overview
The main objective of the production designer’s role is to assist and support the graphic design team with production, file prep, approval process, print specifications and fulfillment of collateral, lookbooks, internal communication and production intensive projects. The production designer will work closely with project coordinator, project source manager and the art department to bridge the gap between creative and printing.
Responsibilities
• Establish and ensure file format standards and proactively provide technical assistance and best practices of file management
• Work closely with design team to ensure clean and printable files
• Create clean and style formatted files that can be shared seamlessly by entire team.
• Oversee server file management
• Offer assistance/suggestions to enhance overall organization of templates and archiving system for easy file retrieval
• Work with project manager to maintain realistic production timelines and clearly communicate project status within Basecamp
• Participate in weekly update meetings with art department. Communicate with project manager on weekly objectives, schedules and inspiration
• Manage projects and keep accurate time accounting through Basecamp
Qualifications
• Highly proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign CS6 on a Mac platform
• Must comprehend logical page structure, readability, visual hierarchy and balance
• Advanced understanding of the production process and pre-flighting
• Expert in building complex print-ready files with an acute attention to detail
• Skilled at interpreting and communicating creative ideas & direction
Education
BFA in Graphic or Communication Design, or 4 years relevant experience
