An intern in the human resources department will be exposed to the business process and procedures; they will become oriented with Catherines and the retail industry and experience firsthand how HR supports the entire company. Interns will become familiar with the pillars of human resources – the first pillar is systems, Catherines uses HRIS which includes the human capital of the company. The second and third pillars are pay and benefits, and they cover things such as salaries, hourly wages, benefits, and perks such as healthcare. Performance management involves the inner workings of people working in and for Catherines, conflict resolution, performance reviews, etc. Recruiting is the act of HR bringing new talent into the company, or using internal recruiting to move staff around to find the right fit and help employees have a future within the organization.
