Purpose
The role of the visual merchandiser is to develop brand and account-specific concepts at the retail level through the use of point-of-sale (POS) and visual elements.
Key Accountabilities
• Lead the development of Retail-focused POS solutions that support adidas’ Global direction, meets US account needs, strengthens adidas’ Brand presentation at Retail, and enhances commercial success with a specific focus on the Mall Channel.
• Direct external resources (agencies/freelancers) to ensure solutions are aligned to brand direction
• Ensure all retail marketing visual solutions are aligned with Global and brand direction and driving the brand image forward by connecting to our consumer at retail.
• Work with sr. comms manager/comms director to develop and implement a clear retail plan supporting the larger Brand Plan objectives by category
• Work with trade marketing and account activation to ensure all necessary retail tools are provided by channel
• Based on business and brand objectives for assigned retail channels and/or concepts, develop and present strategies for how to bring the campaigns to life at the retail level through the use of in-store elements.
• Assess campaign tools already developed by Global Retail to determine their applicability to each project and recommend how they be implemented and/or adapted for the US market. If the Global tools don’t fully answer the US needs or opportunities, then manage the necessary modifications and/or lead the development of new components.
• For new components that need to be created in the US, write project briefs, manage internal and external agency partners in the development of the tools, and coordinate the final execution and implementation of all materials.
• Partner with Account Activation Managers to coordinate account presentations, approvals and final implementation – including confirmation of quantities, shipping and installation.
• Ensure projects stay within given budgets and that all team members have a clear understanding of what’s being covered within existing budgets.
• ”Own” the retail components of assigned concepts – providing informed recommendations and proactively leading internal and external teams through all stages of development. This includes partnering with Global Retail to provide input on market needs and applicability of globally-developed tools to US retail environments.
• Constantly focus on refining, developing and innovating the adidas experience on the retail floor.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
• Proven understanding of retail needs with a focus on product presentation and merchandising.
• Ability to thrive in a face paced, constantly changing environment.
• Understanding of the Mall channel and Originals consumer with in that channel.
• Possess excellent written, oral and visual communication skills.
• Strong conceptual thinking and design critiquing skills.
• Ability to lead, manage and motivate internal and external project teams.
• Highly developed attention to detail.
• Moderate domestic travel required: approximately 15%
• Some hands-on retail floor experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite as well as Microsoft Creative Suite
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Marketing, Business, or related field
2. Three (3) years of retail marketing experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of a degree.
3. Experience in project management and scheduling skills – ideally in developing POS elements.
