The Director of Product Development is a dynamic individual responsible for driving the product development process from initial design concept to final delivery. The Director of Product Development is responsible for the accurate and timely production of samples and bulk. This person is a critical cross-functional partner to the Design and Technical teams.
Organizational Structure:
The Director of Product Development reports directly to the SVP of Product Development, Merchandising, & Merchandise Planning.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate all phases of development cycle from initial concept through production hand-off
• Manage allocation and sourcing strategy
• Execute product development activities from initial design concept to SMS approval and drive issue resolution
• R&D: Meet with yarns mills, issue po’s, track sms yarn, negotiate yarn cost.
• Partner with Design team during early development in order to manufacture samples as needed
• Create and monitor calendars to ensure timelines of deliverables
• Secure and manage inventory levels of materials, and ensure availability for sample room
• Track all proto approvals, communicate proto/sms status, prepare weekly recaps
• Manage sample alterations, record and track modifications
• Participate in the sourcing and allocation strategy
• Schedule line review meetings prior to seasonal line openings
• Set quarterly and seasonal costing strategies to meet company goals
Qualifications:
• 8+ years experience in product development and the apparel industry
• 8+ years experience in sweaters
• Ability to work in collaborative team environment and communicate cross-functionally with all levels of the organization
• Attention to detail
• Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency
• String interpersonal skills for building working relationships within teams
• Strong time management and organizational skill to establish priorities and meet specific deadlines
• Ability to proactively trouble shoot and problem solve
• Ability to strategize and drive results
• Advanced computer skills and proficiency in Web PDM, PLM, Excel, and Outlook
• Knowledge of sweater and yarn construction
